AFL Women’s committee honors phenomenal
women with IWD award
Sister Frankie Nash of the Communication, Energy & Paperworkers Union
Local 855 is the recipient of this year’s AFL International Women’s Day
Award. Frankie is a grassroots union activist and has been dedicated to working
with her union and community in Hinton over the past two decades.
The Federation’s women’s committee would like to recognize all the
sisters nominated for the International Women’s Day Award. The committee would
also like to thank the unions, locals and labour councils who nominated these
women.
"In nominating these sisters, the labour movement is recognizing
phenomenal women, and phenomenal sisters," said committee member Heather
Walker.
This year’s nominees were:
- Barbara Ames, CUPE Local 38
- Margaret (Peggy) Askin, TWU Local 203 (formerly IBEW Local 348)
- Frankie Nash, CEP Local 855
- Anne O’zipko, UFCW Local 120G
- Heather Walker, AUPE Local 57
The recipient of the 2001 IWD award will be presented with the award on
International Women’s Day. Stay tuned for the announcement where the
presentation will take place.
