Heads Up!
CEP western region organizing youth action camp in Alberta
Edmonton – Heads Up! This October, young members of the Communications,
Energy and Paperworkers Union will be attending the first-ever CEP Western
Region Youth Action Camp.
Not only is this a first for CEP, it is a first of its kind by any union in
western Canada. So, a second "heads up" --- CEP is making its mark as
one of the more progressive unions when it comes to addressing young workers.
This camp, designed by a steering group of young union members, young
activists and young educators from the across the Western region, will provide
young CEP members, as well as sons and daughters of members with an opportunity
to engage in the labour movement.
Through a worker-centered, feminist, anti-racist, queer-positive and
youth-friendly vision of the labour movement Heads Up! will help grow young
members’ activist and leadership skills, as well as tools for creating change.
Participants will go through an interactive and fun weekend of skill
development, education and mobilization.
The camp is being organized jointly with Check Your Head, a Vancouver-based
youth activist group that educates youth about globalization and trade and
economic agreements. Participants will learn and challenge the forces of
corporate greed, leaving the camp, fully prepared to take it on.
Heads Up! will take place October 26 to 28 at the Rocky Mountain YMCA,
located near Canmore, Alberta. The Youth Action Camp is open to all CEP members,
or the sons or daughters of members between the ages of 16 and 26 from locals in
the Western Region.
Full information packages, including registration forms, will in be in local
offices by mid May.
