A boy mysteriously disappears in a crowded hotel lobby. The boy is presumed dead and the family moves away to cope with the pain. They return 9 years later to discover their son was kidnapped and had been living nearby all along. Michelle Pfeiffer plays Beth Cappadora and her husband Patrick is played by Treat Williams.

Based on a book by Jacquelyn Mitchard (the story came to her in a dream) and was featured as the first book on Oprahs' book club.

The film is directed by Ulu Grosbard. He has also directed "Falling in Love" starring Robert DeNiro and Meryl Streep, "True Confessions" with Robert DeNiro and Robert Duvall, and "Staight Time" with Dustin Hoffman and Gary Busey.

Filmed on location in Van Nuys, California.
