He goes everywhere trying to find the maid who fits the slipper. Of course, if it fit her in the first place, why did it come off?
It doesn't fit the younger stepsister, but her mother tells her to cut off her toes, and it fits. All is well unti the birds call to his attention that the slipper is full of blood.
When her time comes, she looks at the slipper, so full of her stepsisters' blood, and turns away in revulsion and never tries to put it on. It's made of fur, you see, not glass.
