Four Word Stories

Four Word Stories started out as a form of writing exercise. I had a database of words, I selected four from them at random, and wrote a short story of some kind. ("Story" is being used loosely here, since they are often devoid of any kind of plot.) For a while I was writing and posting one a day on talk.bizarre; I've slowed down since, but like to do one occasionally.

Alt.prose(and perhaps now rec.arts.prose, for all I know)has had a periodic "Three Word Story" assignment for a while, but I've discovered that four words, especially if one or more is unusual, provide a strong enough framework to build a story around. (Though if they're too unusual, it becomes a chore to try to incorporate them all.)
