Be Safe Navigation Training
During the year 2000 I became a member of the Olds Emergency Response Team and in April 2001 took training called SAR Fundamentals. In January 2002 Olds Emergency Response Team officially became Olds Search and Rescue.
Soon after becoming a search and rescue group it was determined our members needed a greater understanding of the map and compass relationship and I agreed to become the groups navigation trainer. Initially I drew on my scouting experiences and the resources available to me. In April 2006 I was able to take a new training program created by the Canadian Ecology Centre and presented through The National Green Check GPS Certification Program and in April 2007 I completed the instructors training course and received full certification as an instructor in Green Check Certified GPS Training.
If you like the outdoors and haven't done so, take a course (usually one day), learn how to make the most of the tools. Your employer may even recognize your training and you might find the popular sport of Geocaching (treasure hunting with GPS) a fascinating past time.
