Keymapping the Tank’s Throttle to Your Joystick Throttle.

Tired of always holding your joystick forward to get somewhere in that char? Wish you could go afkb for a sec and have the tank keep rolling? Frustrated by the fact that every time you jump to your turret position the gun is pointing at the ground somewhere? If you answered yes to these questions then you need to map the throttle on your tank to your joysticks throttle.

The following document is quite sizable as I have included many screen shots. If you want to print out the text only portion of this lecture click here. TEXT ONLY.

This is done using the Keymapper inside WWIIonline. It would be best to make these changes during an offline session, as it is easier to check your results. Go to your start menu and click Strategy First => WW II Online => Practice Offline.

Here I have highlighted Keymapper.

Once inside the keymapper I Select Tank from the Category Column.

Scroll down the lower section of the screen till you find "Gas". Double click in the Primary/Axis column.

Move the throttle on your joystick fore and aft and the entry should change to something like " joystick 1 slider1 axis".

If your joystick also has a twist grip (ie: for rudders on your aircraft), you can place the track clutches there. This enables you to make small course corrections using the clutch only and not slow the engine down by applying the brake. Using the same process as when you changed the throttle, double-click the entry under "Primary" for your left track clutch.

Rotate your Joystick grip from center to the left and back to center a couple of times. Note that you do not go fully left to right, just center-left-center. Your Left Track clutch should now be mapped to " joystick 1 rz axis- ". The minus sign indicates a half axis. The right track clutch is the same process with the exception that you twist from center to right and back again. You should end up with " joystick 1 rz axis+".

Now click the "Save All" button.

If you are still with me you may want to add a couple of positions and views to your joystick buttons. I have added the tank positions and gunsight zoom keys to my joystick buttons. Look for the instrument and gunsight views.

Double-click in the Secondary column and select the joystick button you desire. Save when finished.

I have also used buttons on my joystick to jump around the positions in my tank. The process is the same.

In the function column look for "Position 1" etc. Double click on that line in the secondary column and select the button of your choice.

When complete hit the "Save All"

Take your newly configured tank out for a test drive. In your C:\Playnet\CRS\WW2OL\Data\cfml directory (your location may vary) will be your new CFML. If you don’t like what you’ve done you can simply delete the CFML you just created (or select "Restore Keymap" inside the keymapper) and start over again.

The same concepts can be applied to the AT guns. Select "AT gun" under category. Here I’ve edited the "AT Gun Move" to use the throttle instead of pushing the joystick forward.

The throttle now controls forward and backwards motion with midway being stopped. You can achieve a full stop by pulling back on the joystick (applying center brake) or deploying the gun.
