About Us

Did you know that Edmonton's Community Leagues form the largest not-for-profit volunteer organization in North America?

What is a Community League?

  • An independent volunteer organization which meets the needs and interests of residents within the community.
  • A body entrusted by the City of Edmonton to assist with the development of neighborhood parks, playgrounds, skating rinks, tennis courts, etc.
  • Composed of an elected Board of Directors, who are responsible for carrying out the business of the League.
  • An organization, which is totally dependent upon volunteers and members who give time and talents in an effort to make their community, a better place in which to live.

What do they provide (click here for flyer)?

  • Recreational Programs - These programs promote educational, physical, emotional, and social development of children, teens, adults and seniors through sports and fitness, hobbies, and general interest classes/activities.
  • Community Awareness - The Community League can be the means to express your concerns about changes in your neighborhood on matters such as land use, transportation, waste management, playgrounds, etc.
  • Activities - The League provides social functions such as dances, barbecues, and many clubs for everyone to meet and mingle.
  • Benefits - These include many personal and social benefits including meaningful participation, recognition, a sense of achievement and belonging, relaxation and exercise, reduced isolation, and freedom from fear through crime prevention projects.
