Special thanks to my "Son and Grandson" for helping me with my page. From the mouths of Babes: When my Grandson was about 7 years old, he tried to show me how to use a computer. After many mistakes on my part, he turned to me and said, "Grandma, your not very smart are you?" With out the help and patience from my Son, this web page would not be possible. In 1972, I took my first cake decorating class, and never looked back since. Like so many in this "Art" it's given me the opportunity to meet so many great cake decorators. My son was getting married in 1982, and they asked me to do their wedding cake. At first I said there was no way I could decorate a wedding cake. Then decided to return to a cake decorating class and brush up on my techniques. The instructor who was teaching planned on quitting and asked if I would take her place. My husband convinced me to take on the job. I spent all winter practicing so that when my first class started in April 1982, I would be ready. Believe me, you're never ready, when I walked into the classroom, there were 24 ladies sitting there. Thank goodness a friend was in my class, as I wanted to run. She winked at me and with great effort I tried to talk and nothing came out. The course was 10 Wednesdays and seemed to go by so fast. As you may have guessed, I did decorate my son's wedding cake and the rest is history. I had the privilege of meeting Joan McDaniel in 1983, when I took her South African Course in Rolled Fondant, Filigree, Flower Moulding, Posy and Corsage assembly. Completed her Course II in Moulding Flowers, Brush Embroidery Run in Cakes. Joan's last course that she taught was Gum Paste Figures, June 1985. She was an inspiration to all that she taught, always giving from the heart. She always encouraged me to go on with my cake decorating and teaching. My thoughts are always with her when I enter my first day at each class. April of 1986 I took Geraldine Randlesome's course in Floating Collars Music Boxes. As I was learning from these excellent instructors, I was teaching this new knowledge to my students. I have watched so many students carry on in this Art, and this has always given me great pleasure to see how they progress. The lasting friendships that have started from these classes can never be replaced. | ![]() |
