October11, 2007
- This Wednesday October 17 is the start of our second season at Fiddler's Roost and we are celebrating by starting early (7:00 PM) and having a pot luck of snacks if you want to bring anything. Thanks to Marv Machura and Robyn Morgan for thinking it was the week before and bringing snacks for us last Wednesday. It was a good night even without those snacks. We had old friends who have been traveling and some new folks too ... bass, vocal harmonizer, button accordion, hand drum, fiddle, piano, suitcase drum, harmonica, mandola, classical guitar as well as the usual guitars.
Also don't forget Wednesday October 31 costume event for Halloween.
-
September, 2007
- their is talk of having two special events in October.
October 17 is the start of our second season at Fiddler's Roost and we are thinking maybe of starting early that Wednesday and having a pot luck dinner.
Wednesday October 31 costume event for Halloween.
if you can drop down to the Fiddlers Roost this Wednesday for some informal talks on what we should do on those two nights
David Ross Macdonald, drummer for the Waifs from Australia unassumingly came to Little Flower a couple of weeks ago and treated us with some of his own songs with some wonderful finger picking guitar and his smooth soft singing. And new in town from Toronto and the Yukon, a gal, Sall' Gibson. You never know what is going to happen at Little Flower. Sorry if you missed it.

have our Christmas Party there Wednesday December 13th.

October 12, 2006
- Please note: Presently during Hall renovations the open stage will
be canceled until further notice. Unfortunately our turnouts haven't been
great at Honest Mur's and now Mur' thinks the open stage is interfering
with Hockey on the big screen and that is hurting his business so sorry.
Breezy Bri is out of town this weekend and has no time to make an alternate
arrangement for next Wednesday. At this point it is unknow if we will find
some other temporary location or if we will just wait until the hall is
ready again.
-
- Well a lot of people have been asking who won the draw. It was Glenn
Eilers. For those who are not familiar with him by name he is the #1 Busker
in the LRT. You know the guy, long gray hair and beard with crutches playing
beautiful music on flutes and whistles. At Little Flower he also plays
guitar and sings real ancient folk songs with his rich soft voice.
- Thanks to everyone who donated ! The P.A. is fixed.

Honest Mur's Bar & Grill 8937-82 Ave. Wednesdays
8:00 PM
- sorry everybody we thought we had it all arranged back in June that
we would be going to the Home Plate Club but last Wednesday when we went
to set up there we found that the manager we had been dealing with had
just walked off the job two days before and the new person in charge wanted
us to pay $210 a night to use the space not $50 . Trying to keep focused
on our mission to make music rather than make money for the Cracker Cats
and pay them to have you come and buy their expensive beverages we passed
on the $210 . As it turned out we had the option last Wednesday to still
have the Hall so we scrambled and set up there and got started only 20
minutes late. Thanks to everbody who has been helping in the last few days
to find an alternate place. ( especially Glenn, Sarrah, & Mick)

Light weight fundraiser
- Although we are temporarily leaving the neighborhood our little finacial
crunch has suddenly become less serious. All we really need to cover is
the bill for P.A. repairs and we have already collected almost enough for
that. Many thanks to all those who have contributed so far. For the next
few weeks we are still asking anyone who wants to help out to put a donation
in the envelope and write their name on a slip for a draw to win a helium filled balloon, which is being donated by Annticks
Party Instigators
- Of course at Honest Mur's our Executive Director, Mick Pettigrew won't
be behind the bar but he will be at the control table keeping the list
of players and accepting any donations from those who want to be in the
draw.
- The draw for the balloon will be Wednesday September 27, at 10:00
P.M. at Honest Mur's Bar & Grill 8937-82 Ave
-
Keep in mind this is a light weight fundraiser. We
don't need to raise a lot but if a few people give a few extra dollars
it will help keep the show going. Don't forget you also get a chance to
win that helium filled balloon which is more of an honor than a prize.

- Light weight fundraiser
- It is over 2 years since we had our first Light weight fundraiser. Back in 2004 the winner of the draw was Bill Werthman representing
The Northern Lights Folk Club who gave a very generous donation for the
cause.
- Now again we've had to have an emergency board meeting because we will
be facing a little financial crunch in the near future. Most serious if
you can call this serious is the fact that the power amp on the P.A. blew
up and needs to be repaired. Also while we are temporarily having the open
stage at the Home Plate Club, though thankfully we are getting the space
rent free we have to come up with $50 a week to cover the cleaning.
- You know every week we take a donation to give to the Rossdale Community
League for letting us have the hall and we are going to continue taking
donations as usuall on Wednesday nights at the Home Plate Club and put
it towards covering the cleaning fees, however we seldom get $50 in donations
so we are planning a separate fundraiser. For the next few weeks we are
asking anyone who wants to help out to put a donation in an envelope and
write their name on a slip for a draw to win a helium filled balloon, which
is being donated by SCHEME A DREAM.
- The draw for the balloon will be at the hall Wednesday September 27,
at 10:00 P.M.
- Keep in mind this is a light weight fundraiser. We don't need to raise
a lot but if a few people give a few extra dollars it will help keep the
show going. Don't forget you also get a chance to win that helium filled
balloon which is more of an honor than a prize.

June, 2006
- Little Flower Open Stage at the Home Plate Club
- Please note folks: On June 14 we will not be at the Hall. We will be
next door at the Home Plate Club. The Home Plate Club is the lounge in
Telus Field Baseball Stadium.
- Same time Wednesday June 14, 8:00 PM - Midnight
- Sometime this fall we are going to have to move out of the hall for
a month or so for hall renovations and we may at that time, hold the open
stage at the Home Plate Club, so this is a try out to see if we like it
and if The Cracker Cats like having us. We would like it if you can come
down and give us your opinion. Do you think the Home Plate Club would be
a good place for our open stage while the hall is renovated ?

June 4, 2004
- 6th Year Anniversary Party
- Wednesday June 30 we are having an Anniversary Party and Open Stage
to celebrate 6 years of fun and wonderful music at Little Flower Open Stage.
There is a baseball game that night too so we are starting a bit early.
We are going to start the Open Stage at 7:00 P.M. but please come a bit
earlier if you want a parking spot. The game starts at 8:05 and the lot
will be full by then. As on all game nights there will be a $3 charge for
parking.
- Now you may remember last year our theme for the Anniversary was Cowboy's
and Indians. This year its is going to be the SCALPING. At 8:30
or so Jan (Little Janice Wiest) is going to have her head shaved to raise
money for the Stollery Children's Hospital. this is a real sacrifice for
a very good cause plus it will be fun to see, so please support her in
this cause by making a pledge and a donation. Please give your donation
to Jan before and make cheques payable to the Stollery Children's Hospital.
- Weather permitting we will hold the event outside on the deck with
audience seating on the grassy knoll on the west side of the deck. Hot
Dogs and refreshments will be served. As usual we will ask you for a donation
for the Rossdale Community League who provide us with the Hall on Wednesday
nights for six years now.

May 12, 2004
- Wednesday May 12 is the first Wednesday Baseball Game this year. Maybe
- this Wednesday, but probably not because it is cold, there may be a
- shortage of parking behind the Hall and it will cost $3 to park there.
- In general, an hour or so after game time you probably won't have to
pay
- but if it is a busy game night you may not find a spot. For those of
you
- who feel like dropping down later the baseball fans will have gone
- leaving parking space.
- Wednesday Baseball Games this season
- May 12, 7:05 P.M.
- June 16, 12:05 P.M. ( should not be a problem for Little Flower )
- June 30, 8:05 P.M. ( this is the night of our 6th Anniversary Party
)
- Please come early if you want a parking spot ( before 7:00 or
- well before 7:00 )
- July 21, 7:05 P.M.
- August 11, 7:05 P.M.
- August 25, 7:05 P.M.
- September 1, 7:05 P.M.
- Whatever, if your coming we hope you make it and while they are batting
- and catching and pitching we'll be strumming and humming and thumping
- and picking.

- No more popcorn machines please
- Right after we sent out the last Little Flower News, Wontiha and Terry
showed up at the hall with a beautiful new popcorn machine and then last
week Ron Taylor said he was planning on donating a popcorn machine so we
thought we'd better say. Also we weren't expecting organizations to be
helping us out but we have to thank the Northern Lights Folk Club for their
generous donation. Thanks also to everyone who has been participating so
far. The draw for the helium filled balloon will be at the hall Wednesday
March 3, at 10:00 P.M.

February 4, 2004
- Light weight fundraiser
- At our last board meeting it was brought to our attention that we will
be facing a little financial crunch in the near future. Most serious if
you can call this serious is the fact that the popcorn machine is wearing
out and needs to be replaced. Also we would like to stock up on supplies
like plastic glasses and candles etc. and for years we have talked about
getting a dolly so we can just roll away all our Little Flower junk we
store in the back room week to week. One of the mics died and although
we are getting by with 3 its nice to have the fourth when needed.
- You know every week we take a donation to give to the Rossdale Community
League for letting us have the hall but we don't feel right using any of
that money so we are planning a separate fundraiser. For the next few weeks
we are asking anyone who wants to help out to put a donation in an envelope
and write their name on a slip for a draw to win a helium filled balloon.
- The draw for the balloon will be at the hall Wednesday March 3, at
10:00 P.M.
- Keep in mind this is a light weight fundraiser. We don't need to raise
a lot but if a few people give a few extra dollars it will help keep the
show going. Don't forget you also get a chance to win that helium filled
balloon which is more of an honor than a prize.

December 7, 2003
- Christmas Party
- A few people were disappointed that we were not having a Christmas
Party this year and strangely one of them isn't even a Christian. Realizing
this was a serious matter when even pagans were unhappy about the non event
we called an emergency meeting. The result; we are having a Christmas Party
but not at the hall and not on a Wednesday. Our Party is in conjunction
with Tim's Grill's Christmas Party on Saturday night, December 20th at Tim's Grill 7106-109 Street. Hope to see you there then.
- No Open Stage Christmas Eve
- Please remember we will be closed Christmas Eve, Wednesday December
24th.
- New Years Eve Party and Open Stage
- Our New Years Eve Party and Open Stage 8:00 PM, Wednesday December
31st, will be a Pot Luck Affair. Dress formal, if you like.
- New Look On The Little Flower Web Page
- We have a new look on the Little Flower Web Page and it now includes
a secret button that will take you to the dark side of Little Flower. Clue
... look for a little purple flower.

November 3, 2003
- A bit of bad news; Sparky (Rob's & Patsy's dog) passed away last
Thursday morning. Although Sparky wasn't down at Little Flower much lately,
she won the award for best attendance of the 2001-2002 Season.
- Many will remember this wonderful little black dog; always friendly
but polite. We thought that maybe we should have a minute of silence at
11:00 P.M. this Wednesday night but then realized that would probably be
impossible.
- We try to explain to performers that if they want silence they have
to either charm the audience or enforce it rhetorically, or ignore it.
Little flower is not too formal, it is where the young and brave come together
with the young and shy and with the old and jaded and a dog or two. Did
you ever wonder what dogs think about when there is silence ?
- Other bit of possibly bad news: We will be closed Christmas Eve
- We are going to have a New Year's Eve Party and Open Stage Wednesday
- December 31, 2003
