CANADIAN BEEF GRADING AGENCY

The last ten years have seen major changes in the beef grading program in B.C. Of the twelve plants that once received grading service there are only four remaining and they have a minimum amount of beef to grade. The closure of J & L Beef within the last year has made a big hole in the amount of beef graded in B.C.

Bruce Mills

Regional Supervisor

British Columbia

As you can see from Bruce’s testimonial and picture he is the strong, silent type. But do not let the facade fool you. Bruce knows how to identify and assess quality in a beef carcass and has the confidence to stand by his decisions. Bruce’s background in the slaughter industry dates back to the days of Jack Diamond Meats where he was an employee. The opportunity presented itself to work with the Federal Government and he has been involved in grading since that time. His expertise covers lamb, pork, bison and beef grading and even though he is now on contract with the Canadian Beef Grading Agency, 4-H Clubs and the PNE still call upon Bruce for his advise and assistance.

As supervisor for the B.C. region he faces the tough challenge of ensuring delivery of an accurate consistent grade standard when volumes are so low it is difficult to establish a benchmark and the distance and terrain between Vancouver and Dawson Creek are formidable.
