 It is the R.C.M.P.’s role to provide complete police service for the residents of Alberta . This includes general information and referral services, preventative patrol, enforcement of provincial statutes (i.e. traffic, liquor offences) and enforcement of federal statutes (i.e. drugs, customs, excise). 

The Municipal District of Big Lakes has one special constable.
