The most common questions I am asked are, "Where did you buy that part" and, "When will they be finished"? Neither of these questions have relevance in my workshop.

The next most frequently asked question is "How did you build that part"? I like this question! To address it, I decided to start producing videos as I wade through some of the more off-beat processes. To date I have produced 2 DVDs that take you into my little workshop and let you look over my shoulder.

Fabricatin' 1 has 3 videos on it:

• Lost Wax Casting - A fender tip for the rear fender. It is cast in ZA12, a zinc-aluminum alloy, using my barbeque to melt the metal.
• Tin Bashing - Construction of a headlamp housing built out of 20 gauge steel. The design process is also fully explained since I designed it as I was building it.
• Hydroforming - Demonstrates a technique rarely used in the home workshop, but one that I have found very useful - shaping sheet metal using hydraulic pressure created with an inexpensive grease gun.

Fabricatin' 2 also has 3 videos on it (determined by the memory capacity of my computer):

• Die Forming - Design and construction of dies and subsequent forming of a headlamp rim.
• Casting Urethane - Design and construction of pattern and molds, then the casting process to build a headlamp lens
• Cam - Explains the design and machining of a 4-lobe cam for a V-twin engine

The DVDs can be watched on a television set or a computer. I shot the videos using a pretty good digital Camcorder so the image quality is nice and sharp, and I editted them as tightly as possible. I've also included a sound track on which I explain what is happening.
