Welcome workers at Best Cleaners
Workers at Best Cleaners voted several weeks ago to be represented by the Communications Energy and Paperworkers Union Local 707. The Labour Relations Board had previously ruled that the petition was in order and that Best Workers on the Suncor site could join the union if they so wish. Over eighty percent of the workers turned out to vote and of those 64% marked yes on their ballot.
Walter Manning, President of Local 707 Suncor Unit, says he is pleased that these workers chose Local 707 and extends his support helping them achieve their first collective agreement.
"Things have been somewhat slow since the vote took place during the holiday season" says Keith Barrington, National Rep. " we will resume early in the New Year with the election of officers and a bargaining committee. Once that task is done, the committee will work at developing language for a first agreement."
As most of you know, some of these workers had previously voted to be represented by our union under a different contractor. The drive with that contractor had been stifled when the employer lost its contract to Best Cleaners.
