Roland Jean LeFort
Born In Cheticamp Nova Scotia , Roland completed High School in this Acadian Community and furthered his education at Universitee Ste. Anne in Church Point Nova Scotia. As a graduate in Community Social Development , Roland worked for the "Federation Acadienne de la Nouvelle Ecosse". He then moved to Edmonton Alberta in 1979 where he trained and worked as a Pipe Inspector in the Western Oil Fields. Roland received training in Non Destructive Testing from the International Pipe Inspectors Association in Houston Texas. In 1982 Roland found his way to Ft. McMurray and began work with Suncor Mine Operations in October of 1983. He became a steward in what was then the Overburden Department in 1987. In 1989 he was successful in his bid for the executive position as Sergeant at Arms. Roland held that position until 1993 when he sought and won the position of Safety Chair.
Roland is a Gaduate of the Labour College of Canada . He was on the 1990 and 92 Bargaining Committee. He has attended numerous courses on a variety of subjects such as WCB, Duty to Accomodate, Union Leadership, Safety , Problem Resolution and others.
Roland has been a strong advocate for the Labour Movement in Ft. McMurray. He has been a resource person for Athabasca University in their labour studies courses. He has been invited to speak at numerous ocassions to students at Keyano College and the local High Schools.
Roland has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the Health Safety and Industrial Relations Training Fund of our National Union , he was also appointed by the National President to sit on the Just Transitions Committee for the Energy Sector.
Roland is currently Treasurer of the Ft.McMurray Food Bank Association , he aslo represents the interest of our Union as Vice President of the Personal Support Network and is Labour 's voice on the Board of the United Way.
We welcome Roland as our new Secretary Treasurer and wish him well with this new challenge.
