Arctic
I lived in Yellowknife following my marriage in 1950.
In 1990 I made my first trip above the Arctic Circle (Elder Hostel trip to inuvik)
I went with Betty Galbraith-Cornell, a painting friend from Montreal.
At that time the Muskrat Jamboree, a spring festival was on.
I was invited to come back to Inuvik the following year in July
as a participant in The Great Northern Arts Festival.
I have so many happy memories of my visits to Inuvik, the festival and the people I met.
Most of the artists work in isolation so it is a happy experience for them to have the opportunity
to share ideas and to learn about new materials, and to see their work exhibited.

Note the delta braid -the workmanship is incredible.

This is the famous Igloo church - It was built without plans and after it was completed specialists from Edmonton were sent north to make plans of the building for the records. |
This is Judas Ullulaq-a master carver now deceased - he was kind enough to pose for me - his unique carvings are sought after world wide. |
