India - in paint

This is the mine site where my husband was consulting.  (Gouache)

This painting is the property of Met-Chem Canada Limited (Montreal)

It was not an easy life for children

These were done in oil

These were some of the workers building a new hotel

They did not pose for me - I was amazed that the women did so much of the heavy lifting and carrying. The men broke large boulders apart and did the supervising.

Head of a construction worker (oil)

I took lots of photos but also worked on site with my oil paints.

This is how the streets were kept clean.

Families spent the day breaking up stones for construction - or carrying water in pails to fill a lake in a new park - without this work there were no jobs.

A quick sketch done on the street

The contrasts of India. A throne made of pure gold (estimated weight a ton) that is brought out for one day each year - and poverty as I had never seen poverty before.

It was a real learning experience
