Links Tank Gallery IR Battling Systems

Welcome to the newly formed  1st Alberta Battalion. This group has been formed to encourage others in the area to become involved in 1/16 scale RC Battle tanks.  Using RC tanks equipped with IR sensors it is possible to hold tank battles that recreate the tank battles of WWII.  If you think you would be interested in the hobby and have questions regarding  the equipment needed  please  don't hesitate to contact me at

Ready to run 1/16 scale tanks that  have an Airsoft Cannon are available in Canada at very affordable prices.  These tanks are R.C equipped and retail for about $100.00.  This is an incredible value. The turret rotates, gun elevates, and you have the ability to fire off a salvo that propels a 6mm plastic pellet approximately 30 ft.  They are made by the Heng Long Company in China, and can be found in Canada at  Mato toys

Mato is an excellent dealer, one of the best internet dealers I have ever had the pleasure of doing business with.  They have a worldwide reputation for quality service, and supply tanks worldwide.  If you live in Canada consider yourself lucky to have one of the best Heng Long RC tank suppliers in the world.  Placing an order with Mato will have a tank to your door in less then a week (if in stock at time of order) and  you can be out in your back yard  playing Tank Commander 30 minutes later.

Tamiya is also a maker of 1/16 scale tanks.  These are sold as kits and cost considerable more at about $800 for a fully functioning tank.  These are top quality tanks and were pretty much all that was available until the much cheaper Heng Long tanks started showing up a couple of years ago.  Make no mistake about it, the Tamiya tanks are superior quality, but nothing beats the Heng Long tanks for value.   If you like to tinker the Heng Long's present a hobby in themselves with all the modifications that can be done.  Many third party suppliers are catering to the growing need extra parts and exciting electronic modifications.  All of this is available through good internet sales sites.  I have include a links page to help you get started.  The links also include a couple of forums that allow you to ask questions, or just read along to get up to speed on this fast growing hobby.

I am not sure how many people in this area are interested in Battle Tanks, but I hope there are are a few.  Cost to join is nothing.  If there is enough interest we can develop some club rules and a mission statement.  The City of Grande Prairie has an RC park that is used by the RC car guys.  I will check to see what conditions would be placed on a RC Battle tank club who wanted to use the park.  I would think that many of the RC guys would be interested in a little side line and perhaps get involved themselves in this aspect of the hobby.  For now it is all about generating some interest and helping out people buy their first tank.

I am including Photos of tanks I have purchased and detailed this past winter.  With spring just around the corner I am hoping to encourage others to have a look at this as a hobby for themselves.  If you are even remotely interested drop me a line and  I can explain the costs of tank ownership, and provide you with links to get anything you might need.  If you are local and would like to see these things up close, don't hesitate to email me, and we can set something up.
