Hi, Welcome to Lesson Three.

         In this lesson,

1          You will review typing "a" and ";" semi-colon.

 

2          You will learn to type "f" and "j".

 

5          Practice your keyboarding and writing skills by

            using the Message Board.

Typing Essentials with Pictures:

Please go over the handout-Getting Started P.3, 5, 6, 7 again.

P 1       Go over each picture very carefully until

           you can remember all the details.

P 2       Make sure you remember the correct posture for your

          hand position.

To get ready for this lesson, please resize your screens

and open up your word processor:

(You may go directly to the Tying Section if you already know

how to resize your screens and if you know how to open up your word processor.)

          Resizing screens

           

      Double click the blue line at the very top of the screen

    (the line that has the words "Keyboard_three").

R 2       After your double click, the screen should become smaller (or shrink).

R 3       Point your cursor to the right edge of the screen until it turns into

             a double arrow.

 

R 4       Move the edge to the left (by dragging the cursor to the left), so

             the screen is smaller.

 

R 5       Put your cursor to the very top blue line again and drag the screen

             to the extreme right.

             (When you drag your cursor, the screen should move with your cursor).

 

 

R 6         Now you should be able to see your desk top (the initial entry screen with all the icons).

 

          This is how you open up your Word Processing Program:

 

W 1     Click on your desk top and double click your word processor icon.

 

W 2     Make sure your word processor is opened.

 

W 3     Shrink the word processor screen (by double clicking on the blue line

             at the very top of your word processor screen).

 

W 4     Re-size the screen so that it is smaller (go to the right edge of screen

             until the arrow turns into a double arrow and drag the edge to

             the left of your screen)

 

 

W 5      After you opened up your word processor, you should have

             a blank screen for typing.

 

                Typing:

 

T 1.      On your word processing screen, type

            the letter "a"  three times, using

            the pinky of your left hand.

            It should look like this:

 

            aaa

 

T 2.      Now use your thumb of your left hand to

            hit the space bar and type a

            space.

 

T 3.      Next, use your pinky and type "a" again 3 times. It

            should look like this:  

 

            aaa aaa

 

T 4.      Use your right hand thumb to hit the space bar

            and type a space.

 

T 5.      Use your right hand pinky and type semi-colon three

            times. Your work should look like this now.

 

            aaa aaa ;;;

 

T 6.      Use your right hand pinky and type a space and three

            more semi-colons.

 

            Your work should now look like this:

 

            aaa aaa ;;; ;;;

 

T 7.      Move your right hand pinky to the "Enter" button and

            hit the "Enter" button once.

 

            Now your cursor (the blinking line on your computer)

            should be on a different line.

 

T 8.      Put your right hand pinky back on the semi-colon.

 

T 9.      Type semi-colon three times again on the second

            line. Your work should now look like this:

 

            aaa aaa ;;; ;;;

            ;;;

 

T 10.    Type a space by hitting the space bar with the right hand thumb.

 

T 11.    Type three more semi-colons. Your work should now

            look like this.

 

            aaa aaa ;;; ;;;

            ;;; ;;;

 

T 12.    Use your right hand thumb and type a space by hitting the space bar.

 

T 13.    Use your left hand pinky and type "a" three times.

            Your work should look like this now.

 

            aaa aaa ;;; ;;;

            ;;; ;;; aaa

 

T 14.    Use your right hand thumb on the space bar and type a space.

 

T 15.    Use your left hand pinky and type three more "a"

            Your work should look like this now:

 

            aaa aaa ;;; ;;;

            ;;; ;;; aaa aaa

 

T 16.    Use your right hand thumb on the space bar to type a space.

 

T 17.    Type three semi-colons, using your right hand pinky.

            Your work should now look like this:

 

            aaa aaa ;;; ;;;

            ;;; ;;; aaa aaa ;;;

 

T 18.    Move your right hand pinky to the Enter button and

            hit the "Enter" button once.

 

            Now your cursor (the blinking line on your computer)

            should be on a different line.

 

 

T 19.    Use your left index finger and type the

            letter "f" three times. Then use left thumb on the space bar

            to make a space.

 

T 20.    When you are done, your work should look like this:

 

            aaa aaa ;;; ;;;

            ;;; ;;; aaa aaa ;;;

            fff

 

T 21.    Use your right index finger and type

            the letter "j" three times. Then use right thumb

            on the space bar to make a space.

 

 

T 22.    When you are done, your work should look like this:

 

            aaa aaa ;;; ;;;

            ;;; ;;; aaa aaa ;;;

            fff jjj

 

T 23.    Use your left index finger and type

             letter "f" three times again.

 

            Then use left thumb on the space bar to make a space.

 

 

T 24.    When you are done, your work should look like this:

 

            aaa aaa ;;; ;;;

            ;;; ;;; aaa aaa ;;;

            fff jjj fff

 

T 25.    Use your right index finger and type

            the letter "j" three times again.

 

            Then use right thumb on the space bar to make a space.

 

 

            When you are done, your work should look like this:

 

            aaa aaa ;;; ;;;

            ;;; ;;; aaa aaa ;;;

            fff jjj fff jjj

 

 

T 26.    Type the above work again one more time.

 

            Your work should look like this now:

 

            aaa aaa ;;; ;;;

            ;;; ;;; aaa aaa ;;;

            fff jjj fff jjj

 

            aaa aaa ;;; ;;;

            ;;; ;;; aaa aaa ;;;

            fff jjj fff jjj

 

       

PO 10      You are now done typing:

 

         Discuss the Lesson with Classmates:

         - When you chat, you are practicing your keyboarding skills.
