Explanations

This collection of explanations are written by the grade five/six literacy class at High Park elementary school. They explain the water cycle, and in some cases, why we should protect our water resources.

The water cycle

The Water Cycle By L.S.
Water has been on earth since it was made. It has been in trees, plants, animals, dinosaurs and in people. Water never makes more water.
The reason we need to keep our water is because it doesn’t reproduce. We use the same water over and over again. When you’re brushing your teeth, you should turn the water off while you’re brushing.
The water cycle is kind of like a life cycle. The sun puts heat on the water and it goes to the clouds as water vapour. Then the water condensates as rain, snow or hail. It goes back to the ocean, rivers and lakes.

The Water Cycle by CS
The water cycle is very interesting because water comes from icy crystals that fall from the sky. Then it goes into the clouds and becomes rain. The raindrops fall onto the ground, trees, lakes, rivers, and mountains. Then the sun shines on the water and it evaporates into a gas and the gas goes into the clouds.

Water is very important because it gives us something to drink. If we had no water, people will die and the animals will die. The plants will die too! So if we throw our garbage in the lakes and rivers, our water resources will go down and we will have nothing to drink.

SO IF WE LITTER WE WILL DIE!

Do you know how the water cycle works? The sun warms up the ocean. The water evaporates and some goes into the clouds. When the clouds are cold, snow comes down. Sometimes when it snows, the wind comes and puts it into the clouds again. When it rains it does the same thing. Then the snow and rain freeze together and fall down like little ice balls. When the clouds are warm, the water vapor turns into rain. That is the water cycle.

Water cycle By C.K
Water comes from lakes, rivers and oceans. I want to tell you about me when I was a drop of water. I went everywhere. I went in rivers, lakes, in people’s drinks and under the ground. I also am part of animals and people. Sometimes, I am different shapes. Sometimes, I am an ice-cube. Sometimes I am a snowflake. Sometimes I am hail. When it is very hot, sometimes I evaporate into the clouds. Sometimes I stay a long time in the clouds. Other times I come down quickly. When I go into the clouds, I can come down to earth as snow, or hail, or rain. This is part of the water cycle.

It is important to take care of our water. We drink water and we need water to support our bodies. If we don’t drink water, we will die. Plants and animals also need water.

We can save water by recycling it and taking it to water treatment plants. If we don’t our toilets will be full of garbage and when we turn on our taps, slimy green stuff will come out and we will not be able to wash our dishes or our clothes

Water Cycle By T.L.
In the pond 530 million years ago, there was a drop. The heat of the sun evaporated the drop of water. It evaporated into the clouds and it sat in the clouds for months.

The clouds got very, very, heavy and then the rain fell and the cycle started all over again. But when the wind chill is high, when the rain falls it turned
into snow or hail.

We have to protect our water cycle because it is getting polluted. So people, come on! Our water cycle is infected with bacteria and litter like beer cans, plastic rings, and black garbage bags and other stuff. STOP LITTERING.

The water cycle is like life cycle. It starts from the clouds then comes down as snow, rain, and hail. After it hits the ground, the snow starts to pile up and piles up. Then it goes into the ground and goes up roots and stems. Then it comes out and evaporates back into the clouds. It sits in the clouds. Sometimes it is a year. It comes back down as rain, hail, or snow again.

The Water Cycle by L V
I’m a drop of water. I’ve been around for billions of years. I had so many exiting trips. I’ve been in the ocean, lake, icebergs, river, sky and I’ve also been in dinosaurs.
Today I am in a cup of water. I have been dirty water and clean water. Now I am in lake, it is really hot and some of me gets evaporated into steam and travels up to the sky and is turned into clouds. Soon I drop into rain.
If you don’t take care of me, I could get polluted and if the animals get thirsty they will die because I will be all smoky which isn’t good.

The water cycle by DC
Water goes through eagles and crocodiles, worms and spiders, fish and elephants. It has been inside long strands of seaweed and prickly desert cactus and an apple tree. It has been inside an Egyptian princess and a Tyrannosaurus Rex.
Water is special because it goes though many different phases. For example when water gets hot, some vapor goes up to form clouds. When the clouds get really cold, the clouds will let out snow instead of rain and if weather is cold and hot it will let off hail. That is the cycle of water.

The Water Cycle by J.D.
Water is interesting because it has a lot of stages. Water can be frozen, melted and evaporated. Evaporated means when water turns into steam it spreads apart and goes into the clouds. Steam is made by boiling water that becomes so hot, it looks like see-through smoke and floats in the air. It’s water that stays in the clouds and then falls. Rain, snow and hail all fall from the clouds.
You get hot water by the sun shining on it. When you have an ice cube and it’s hot, the ice will melt into water. If the sun keeps shining on the water, it will warm up and become hot.
Ice can be made by snow, hail and rain. When it rains and it’s cold outside and the rain touches things that are cold, it freezes and turns into ice. This is the water cycle.

The Water Cycle by H W.
Little drips of rain travel the world. They have been inside people and out. They have been in animals such as Tyrannosaurus Rex and sea animals. They have been in mountains and all sorts of things. It’s really amazing.
When it rains, the rain can end up in lakes, seas, oceans, rivers and icebergs. Then when it gets hot out, the icebergs will melt and those drops will go into the sea. Some rain turns into vapor and makes clouds. When the clouds get too heavy, all the rain falls out. Then the cycle starts all over again.

The water cycle By T. M
The dark black clouds are filled up with water in the summer. In the winter it snows. The snow comes from the clouds. O.K. now I am going to tell you how water goes back to the clouds. It’s called evaporation but some water doesn’t go back to the clouds. When water on the ground gets hot from the sun, then it steams and then the steam goes up to the air. It becomes the clouds and then when it rains it will go to the water on the land. Water has gone all over the world. Water has gone in all kinds of animals: hot blooded animals, cold blooded animals.

Water cycle by REZ
1. Do you people know that when the sun flashes the water turns into steam?
2. When the steam goes high in the air it turns into clouds, that means it evaporates.
3. Then when clouds get too full, it starts to rain. This water cycle will never stop.

The water cycle By SN
The water cycle is the way water travels around. When water warms up it evaporates. Then the vapor goes up into the air and forms clouds. When the clouds get heavy, we have rain.
