Dan's Bio


Dan brings 27 years of photographic experience to his clients. Most of those years were spent working as a staff photographer for three major Alberta daily newspapers where he honed his skills in various photographic disciplines gaining recognition with several award-winning photographs.

Dan The Photo Man Fresh out of Journalism school he began his career at the Lethbridge Herald in 1979. In 1984 he joined the staff of The Calgary Sun where he excelled as a news and sports photographer covering major professional sporting events that included the 1988 Winter Olympics, 1984 Canada Cup, 1989 Stanley Cup Final, NHL and CFL. It was in Calgary that he discovered a talent for fashion photography and glamour. Dan moved to Edmonton in 1990 and began freelancing for the Edmonton Sun, who subsequently hired him to a staff position in 1992. During his tenure in Edmonton he covered the 1990 Stanley Cup Final, travelled to Ukraine for a news feature and Winnipeg for the 1999 Pan American Games. In May of 2001 Dan Riedlhuber entered the freelance market.

Dan currently provides service for corporate and media clients that require photography in and around the Edmonton area. Some recent clients include Reuters Canada Ltd., Optimum PR, The Edmonton Journal, ihr Magazine, UMM Magazine and the Alberta Government. He also photographs weddings in both the traditional and photojournalistic styles. Dan works almost exclusively with digital capture but will also produce 35mm or medium format film for clients who prefer those mediums.
