Getting Started Playing Multiplayer Games Online

This little tutorial will help you to start playing multiplayer Games online with Player Connector and the engine you like. All you need is a copy of the original game!

For Doom 2 users. You will need your original Doom or Doom2 Iwads from your Doom Games, If you don't have Doom 2, you can buy all classic Doom games in a box called Doom Collectors Edition.

We do not provide warez in any way, please don't ask for a copy of Doom 2 or any of the Iwads or games on any of our services.

 

Downloading and Installing

Player Connector supports allot of the popular Games & engines with online multiplayer gamming, For now We will talk about setting up Soldier of Fortune II: Double Helix. Install the game. Now download and install Player Connector. When you have installed Player Connector, start it up with the shortcut in your Start menu.

 

Logging in

When Player Connector starts it shows you the login dialog. Click on the Create an Account button to make your account. It is at the bottom of the dialog.

Enter your information (only your name and password are required), and click Create Account.

Once your account is created, you will see the login screen again with your login information. Just click the Login button on the right of the window.

 

Preparing Player Connector

Now you need to tell Player Connector where your games are. Go to the Soldier Of Fortune 2 Demo Setup... in the Support menu. It will show you the configuration for Soldier of Fortune II.

Click the button with the 3 dots ... where it says Engine Folder. Now select the directory where you Installed Soldier of Fortune 2, and click OK on both dialogs. Now you are ready to play!

 

Joining a game

Press F2 or click the Rooms tab to see the list of online multiplayer servers and game rooms. Double click on one of these icons to enter the room. A room is much like an IRC channel, but also serves a way to view, join and set up a game online.

When the game is already playing, you can click Join Game to start playing. When the game is not playing, you need to wait for the room moderator to start the game. You can indicate that you want to play by checking the Ready to Play or Moderate box.

 

Doomers: Using extra WAD files

Many games use additional WAD files (called PWADs) which contain extra maps or extra sounds and graphics. You will have to make a directory on your hard disk to store these PWAD files in. Then go to Custom Files Locations... in the Support menu.

Click the Add Folder button to browse for the directory you created to store your PWAD files in. After that, you may also want to select the directory in the box below where it says Download to. This allows Player Connector to automatically download new PWAD files you need to play.

When you enter a room where a game is being played with extra files you don't have, chances are that this file is available for download somewhere at the internet. You can type /getall in the chat bar, press ENTER and Player Connector will search, download and unzip the files you need.

When the message All files are OK for this game is displayed, it means you have all the files needed and you can join this game.

 

Patching your Doom2.wad

Everyone who plays Doom online uses the latest official version of doom2.wad. There have been several different versions of Doom 2, so you may need to patch (update) your doom2.wad file. To see which version you have, download this utility and run it. Select your doom2.wad file and click the Check button to show the version. What you need is version 1.9 of Doom 2.
