HOWEVER

According to a 1993 survey of 150 U.S. and Canadian medical schools, for example, only 14 percent of modern oaths prohibit euthanasia, 11 percent hold covenant with a deity, 8 percent foreswear abortion, and a mere 3 percent forbid sexual contact with patients -- all maxims held sacred in the classical version. Fewer than half of oaths taken today insist the taker be held accountable for keeping the pledge.

BREECH OF MEDICAL CONFIDENCE

The American Congress has accused the FDA of incompetence and stonewalling.  
Drug manufacturers acknowledge they face a crisis of credibility.
The medical community faces a crises of credibility and integrity.

Many medical therapies and Medical advice are based on statistical significance rather than hard clinical facts.  Its a known fact that its the individual response that counts, not the groups.

The British Medical Journal suggests only 15% of medical intervention is supported by solid scientific evidence.

Many drugs prescribed are classified as "off label use" because they are not tested as to their effectiveness to different diseases.  Millions of dollars in Saskatchewan alone is wasted on services and treatments that don't make patients better and in some instances actually hurt them.

The perception of the medical profession by a growing number of people is it lacks integrity and credibility.  They refuse to make quality a central tenant resulting in a 35% increase in Medicare costs.  

They focus on their own entitlements rather than their obligations.  

Specialists have the worst record of communicating diagnoses to a patient.
Family practice doctors however have more compassion and communicate much better.

More than 50% of the population have turned to non conventional medicine.

The herbal drug market has increased 20% per year since 1994

THERAPY IS DRIVEN BY PHARMACEUTICAL COMPANIES

It would appear the medical profession is being driven by the large drug companies who have more interest in profits than your health.  What does this say about our physicians?

The New England Journal of Medicine' has admitted that 50% of drug therapy reviews were written by researchers for undisclosed financial support from the drug pharmaceutical companies.  The British Medical Journal, Lancet points to increasing links of researchers to drug companies.  (April 2002).  Almost 90% of researchers to the Journal of the American Medical Association received funding from drug companies (Feb 2002).  Drug companies regularly write a drug review of their own product and go shopping for corrupt doctors to front their product.  Fees for this type of fraud run from $3,000 to $5,000 an incident.  These fake product reviews are called 'a massive scientific fakery'.  Dr Joel Lexchin of York University of Toronto says this is a known method drug makers use to ensure their products get the right marketing spin.  (November 2003).  Doctors discovered supporting this medical fraud are not prosecuted as one would suspect but considered as just naughty 'old boys'.

Most doctors don't prescribe based on science but based on drug manufactories drug ads in their medical journals.

The Medical profession appears to blindly accepts the research of drug manufacturers who have a vested interest.  This is like allowing the fox in the chicken coop, trust us.

Ninety-five (95%) percent of drug research is focused on copy cat drugs with marginal or no benefits.

Eighty-five (85%) percent of prescription drugs have not been double blind tested.

A profit oriented company cannot underwrite research that would recommend a non-profit result?

Many studies that compare drug to natural therapies are slanted toward a drug result.

CONFLICT OF INTEREST

87% of those on medical committees that make national guidelines have ties to the drug companies.   38% said they served as employees or consultants for pharmaceutical companies.  58% had received financial support for medical research.  59% had links with drug companies whose medications were considered in the particular guidelines they authored.  19% admitted their relationships to drug companies influenced their recommendations.  50% of physicians surveyed refused to reply, fueling speculation that the 87% with drug company ties likely is in the high 90% range.  It is noteworthy that pharmaceutical companies finance most of the nation's drug research.  The study recommended the disqualification of authors who own equity in a company whose products are being reviewed.  JAMA Feb 6, 2002.

The interests of the patients are not paramount as doctors receive from $100 to $10,000 per patient to test drugs.  One current trial (2004) is paying $18,000 per patient.  Some are given expense paid trips to alleged research meetings.  One doctor got paid for enrolling a nun to test a birth control pill.  Research trials have become a business venture.  Research suggests phase 4s trials pay the doctors between $40.00 to $1,200.00 per hour for this service.  The guinea pig patients are not paid for using their bodies as a testing ground. 

The Canadian Medical Association has issued a warning that physicians risk losing patient trust if they fall prey to temptations to accept drug company freebies.  Doctors are already prescribing unnecessary medications to patients because of the pharmaceutical industry's tactics.  About 67% of Canadians already think the medical care system is in a state of crisis.   About 63% of Americans think their system is in a state of crisis.  

More than a dozen Health research scientists, as a result of an audit, were found to have faked research results, plagiarized other research and conducted unethical practices since 2003 in Canada.  Privacy laws prevent naming researchers or identifying fake research thereby protecting the criminals at the expense of the public.  It is known the following universities were implicated: Dalhousie, McGill, McMaster, Sunnybrook and the Women's college Health Sciences Center in Toronto.  The University of Alberta, B.C., Montreal & Sherbrooke are also implicated.  All research from these institutes should be questioned because the guilty are not identified, nor their fraudulent research.  The doctors involved got minor penalties whereas others suggest they should be banned for life from receiving research funds.  One Doctor a Ranjit Chandra of Memorial University has been identified for fraudulent activities concerning research on baby formula, multivitamins and breast feeding.  He has published 100's of research papers over the past 36 years and all will be pulled and reviewed and the results posted to a web site.

IMPLICATIONS OF INADEQUATE MEDICAL CARE

It is reported that 106,000 people each year die from adverse reaction to FDA approved drugs.  Vioxx alone accounts for 55,000 deaths. A jury awarded April 11, 2006, 9 million dollars punitive damages against Merck & Co. for failure to warn doctors of the dangers of pain killer vioxx.  Merick & Co. faces 9,650 other cases.   In 2004 357,392 bad reactions were reported to the FDA.  The estimate for 2005 is 390,000.  Reporting of adverse reaction to drugs is poorly reported and the FDA estimates the bad reactions are about 429,000 to 780,000 per year.  

Medical errors, including receiving the wrong medication, or dose, incorrect test results, and delayed notification of abnormal tests.  The United States errors are 34% of patients, Canada is 30% of patients and Britain is 22%. (2005)

About 160,000 patients died in the United States and 20,000 in Canada per year because of medical errors.  A study in the Province of Saskatchewan suggests 300 people die in that sparsely populated area each year.  Many medical professionals don't believe these estimates.  A Canadian study (06-2004) however suggests medical errors or as they like to call them 'adverse events' take up 1.1 million hospital bed/days.  The study admits that between 9,200 and 24,000 deaths per year are attributed to adverse events.  About 70% of Health-care workers believe adverse events are seriously unreported and 42% of doctors felt pressure not to report adverse events.  

Hospital errors alone in the United States is estimated at 3,000,000 per year at a cost of 200 billion dollars.

RECENT DRUG REVIEWS 

(Some suggest this is just the tip of the ice berg)

ADDERALL XR 
Adderall XR used to treat attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is ordered removed from the shelves in Canada because in one year use, 14 children have died and 2 had strokes not counting the adults. The drug has only been in use one month in Canada. February 2005.  There have been 20 deaths and 12 strokes and the FDA considers this death rate acceptable.

ANTI-PSYCHOTIC DRUGS
Zypreza an anti-psychotic drug used to treat dipolar disease, manic depression and schizophrenia is thought to cause diabetes.   A class-action lawsuit is in progress to prove the point. 2005.  Health Canada  has recorded 600 adverse effects including 59 deaths from the use of anti-psychotic drugs.  They also cause long term neurological disorders.  

ANTICHOLESTEROL DRUGS

Cholesterol plays an important role in cell fusion in the brain and in the immune system. 2005 research suggests those who take drugs to lower cholesterol run a high risk of developing cognitive impairment.  The problem with cholesterol is not your intake, as the body will produce the amount it thinks you need, the problem is the disposal of surplus cholesterol.  Lecithin has been shown to have a leading role in disposal of cholesterol as well as trans fats.

ANTIDEPRESSANTS

Drugs such as celexa, effexor, lexapro, luvox, paxil, prozac, remeron, serzone, wellbutrin, zoloft etc. in some cases worsen depression and suicidulity.   Use of these drugs in children under age 18 has been linked to deaths by suicide and the British have banned their use..  

ANTIPSYCHOTICS

Antipsychotics are used to treat dementia, alzheimers and schizophrenia and double the risk of cardiovascular events especially strokes.  These drugs include risperidone, olanzapine and haloperidol.

BENZODIAZEPINES - XANAX - ATIVAN
Benzodiazepines like Xanax and Ativan for anxiety, insomnia have few if any benefits.  They have even been prescribed to children even toddlers who were never approved for the drug.  They are considered addictive and the docs who prescribe them to children are just drug pushers.  January 2005

COX-2 - VIOXX - CELEBREX - BEXTRA
Dr David Graham of the FDA who contends 80,000 to 139,000 people suffered heart attacks that maybe linked to Vioxx.  He contends 30 to 40% of the attacks were fatal.  He is finally able to publish the results that were previously suppressed by the FDA.  Many feel that the FDA and Health Canada do not have the best interest of patients as a primary concern.  (January 2005).  Vioxx and Celebrex increased risk of heart attack and stroke by 20% whereas Bextra increased risk by 50%.  Bextra is forced off the market in (April 2005) as the risks outweigh the benefits.  Others suggest Vioxx doubles the risk of cardiac problems.  Over 600,000 folks were studied between 2001 to 2004.  February 2005  The FDA accepts the risk of Vioxx, Celebrex and Bextra saying benefits out weight the risks.  Health Canada has not made its recommendations however Vioxx is believed to do far more harm than good:.  The vote however was 15 against and 17 in support of continued use of drugs.  It has been discovered that 10 of the FDA panelists involved in the COX-2 case have ties to the drug makers.  If you remove these bias panelists the COX-2 drugs would be kept off the market.  Health Canada has accused the manufactures of Vioxx for not providing the raw safety date associated with the drug since November, 2004.  It is assumed the FDA did not receive this data before making their biased decision.  2006 Canadian researchers, found that a quarter of the people who suffered a heart attack while taking the drug vioxx did so within the first two weeks of treatment.  Other doctors maintain the drugs are a health risk up to one year after stopping the drug.  There are 13,000 law suites pending against the manufacturer of Vioxx.  November 10, 2007 Mereck and Co. agreed to pay $4.85 billion to settle most claims that its painkillers Vioxx caused heart attacks.  The FDA is not to be trusted.

ESTROGEN AND PROGESTIN 
It has been know for years that these drugs have a high risk of heart attacks, strokes, breast cancer and dementia.  It is now discovered they increase the risk of incontinence.

FLU SHOTS

A 30 year study suggests giving a flu shot to the elderly (65 and over) is not effective.  They do not reduce deaths among the elderly.  Japan has previously stopped their flu shots to the elderly because they came to the same conclusion first.  It has long been known by researchers that the elderly just don't respond to any vaccines because their immune systems are not as effective in generating new antibodies.  Flu shots however have been associated with a 10 fold increase in Alzheimer's disease.  The also increase the heavy metals in the body.  Those many many researchers who have added to the false belief that flu shots reduce deaths in the elderly by as much as 85% should be censured.  It is also noteworthy that there is no evidence to support that flu shots, given to children under are two, were effective.  It is noteworthy that even as late as 2005 the medical profession is still pushing flu shots for the elderly even going as far as offering bonus to those who push more flu shots.  

INFLIXMAB (Remicade) 

Is used to treat patients with rheumatoid arthritis and crohn's disease.  Patients are three times more likely of getting various types of cancer and double the risk of getting serious infections.

OXYCONTIN
Oxycontin another pain killer is killing people at alarming rates and some consider it more addictive than heroin.  This is not lost on the criminal element who are selling the drug as a substitute for heroin only better. (2005)

PROZAC - ZOLOFT - PAXIL - CELEXA - LUVOX 
Prozac approved by the FDA in 1989 was known to cause 'behavioral disturbances' and was known to kill folks since 1987, by violent acts and suicide.  By 1996, 35,000 complaints were filed concerning adverse effects of the drug.  The FDA ignored these warnings and allowed the drug to be administered to children.  It is now estimated that 3.7% of patients suffer from adverse effects of suicide and violence towards others and 8% suffered sexual dysfunction. (2005)  About 80 million people have taken the prozac type drugs therefore 6.4 have suffered through sexual dysfunction and nearly 3 million suffered the effects of suicide and violence.  It is not know how many were killed by this drug.  Other studies suggest drugs like Prozac, Zoloft and Paxil cause more suicide attempts but not more suicides. (2005)  They increase the rate of attempted suicides by double and this has been known for 10 years.  Studies (2006) conclude that there is a five time increase in suicide rates among elderly patents taking the drugs.

SALT

The FDA looks at the science and states, 'salt is generally recognized as safe'.  Salt is not classified as a food additive and therefore not regulated.  It is generally believed that salt causes about 150,000 early deaths each year.

STATINS - LIPITOR - ZOCUR - PRAVACHOL - LOVASTATIN - ADVICOR
Crestor (rosuvastatin) also known as a 'statin' drug is associated with kidney damage and rhabdomyolysis.  Lawyers consider the drug dangerous and are calling for a criminal investigation against AstaZeneca the drug supplier who refuse to withdraw it from the market place.  Other statin drugs are Lipitor, zocur, pravachol, lovastatin and advicor (2005)

TGN1412 a MONOCLONIAL ANTIBODY DRUG

TGN1412 was developed by TeGenero of Germany for the treatment of autoimmune and inflammatory diseases including leukemia.  Clinical trials conducted by Parexel International were suspended when 9 test subjects became ill after one injection of the drug.  Two are in critical condition with 'elephant man' type symptoms.  Multiple sclerosis is believed to be an autoimmune disease.    

TRANS FATTY ACID

An unsaturated fatty acid produced by partial hydrogenation of vegetable oils:
RISKS

50% increased risk of heart attacks
increased risk of diabetes
low birth weight
raises cholesterol levels
passes from mother to child via breast milk

About 7% of fats in breast milk are trans fatty acid

 

TYLENOL

A small study has linked Tylenol to liver damage. (05/07/06)

TYSABRI (natalizumab)

Tysabri had accelerated approval by the FDA for use in November 2004 and has been withdrawn from the market March 28, 2005 and all clinical trials.  There has been adverse events in the Tysabri/Avonex trials.  One event was fatal, one confirmed and one suspected cases of PML (Multifocal Leukoncephalopathy, a usually fatal demyelination disease.  PML is a rare, serious, progressive neurological disease, usually occurring in immunosuppressed patients, often resulting in irreversible neurological deterioration and death. There is no known effective treatment for PML, although reversing immune system suppression may slow or arrest progression of the disease.
