DURING THIS CENTURY
The Spirit of the Light according to the Ojibwa
is a mischievous spirit around which are woven parables during story telling times.
Nanabozho taught the Ojibwa to make fire, arrows, lances and hatchets.
He showed the people how to write on rocks and find herbal medicine.
He taught the people how to hunt, build canoes, cultivate corn, beans, and squash.
He showed the people how to make nets to catch fish by watching the spider trap flies.
He also gave the people the sacred drum, the sacred rattle to extend life, tobacco as an emblem of peace and
a dog as a companion on the hunt.
Because of this always leave an offering of gratitude for a safe hunt or journey.

Over one hundred years of trading with the New Peoples from across the salt sea has been concluded.  Most encounters are conducted under the time-honored tradition of exchange of gifts followed with customary alliance for peace.  The Old Nation People held most resources in common and freely shared with strangers.  The New World People from the East considered this a strange practice.  The Old World People believed that only the Great Spirit owned the land and the People are merely caretakers.  The exchange of gifts is in recognition of this custodianship.

The People had no appreciation of the Europeans long-range ambitions of conquest.  European drive for personal materialism coupled with their monopolistic beliefs of religion has no precedence in the Americas.  The People held honesty above all values.  The European principle of separation of values from actions is beyond the understanding of the Peoples.  This religious concept of the end justifies the means also had no president in Aboriginal tradition.  Their religion of hospitality made the People ripe for the three hundred-year war of conquest that is just beginning.

The major cultural advantage of Canadians Vs Central American people is their fluid organizational abilities. The Canadian people didn't have a highly centralized hierarchical political structure therefore they were difficult to subdue and impossible to make profitable use as slaves.  The Canadian people are never conquered.
