I wrote to you many moons ago when I first discovered your site and I find myself consistently returning to it for reference.

Suzan Porter  -  01  -  2011

I just love your site! Thank you so much for all of the time you've spent on this.
Truly impressive and greatly appreciated.

Elaine Coxon  -  01  -  2011

Your site is seemingly the most complete about metis genealogy.
Bravo.
I have had the opportunity to visit it several times.

C Ferland  -   01 -   2011

I have just come across your extensive history of Alberta. The detail is extraordinary.

Rod Miller  -  02  -  2011

What are your sources for your wonderful website?
Thank you!
You are a brillant mind.

Karen  02  -  2011

I have been reading much of your work .It is very interesting and it does contradict origins of other researchers.
It can only lead to confusion is there anyway I can confirm your sources?  I am looking forward to your response

Carl Tyrell dit Antaya  -  03   -   2011
I normally don't post responses to e-mails but this is a good and valid question:
The intent of my work is to present differing opinions, differing perceptions of the same event at the same time by different people. Do you have a specific issue? I don’t try to determine who is right and who is wrong but at times I also inject my own opinion
that is why I call it A DISTINCT VIEWPOINT.
Great events seldom occur in truth.  The only known absolute is that history is neither static nor accurate.

Was just scanning your site. Amazing!

Susie   -  03  -  2011

Thank you so much for your incredible history of Canada and New France.
I’m new to ancestry.ca and am totally addicted to it.
In my web searches I’ve come across your amazing documentation several times.
I finally stopped reading it today to find out who the author was of this amazing piece of work.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your dedication and time.
Your hard work has added so much pleasure as I learn more about the phenomenal history of my Canadian ancestry.

Rene Orr  -  03   -  2011

I stumbled upon your site by accident, and I'm glad I did!
I'm also a descendant of the Garneau family , and it was wonderful to see the history of the family.
I will definitely let others know of the website. Thank you for your time spent on this wonderful project

Kurt Roboinson   -  03  -   2011

I just happened across your site and I can see that I'll be a steady visitor.
My early genealogy research has turned into an obsession, thanks also to my love of history

Dale Frank   -  03   -  2011

Thank you for the very helpful website that you have put together.
It has been very useful for me to understand the context of my family's history.

Charles Shelton   -  03  -  2011

I make a point of congratulating you for your fantastic work.

A little thank you, I wish you the best.

Sylvian Blais   -  04   -   2011

I stumbled onto your site tonight and found it quite interesting.
I was fascinated with the detailed information you have recorded in the French history section.
I have been looking for information like this for awhile.
Like yourself, my first ancestor arrived from France in the mid 1600's .
Over the years there have signs that some of my ancestors were of metis / aborinignal roots.
I was wondering where you found some of your more detailed information about births and marriages?
I have found some information through some of the government archives but it is not as detailed as yours.

Bert Larocque   -   04   -   2011

I have been reading your complete Metis History and am currently residing in the 1680's.
Your work is changing my perspectives page by page;
I am becoming more aware of our ancestors rich history and the struggles they must have faced.

The intent of my email is to tell you how grateful I am to have found the fruits of your labours online.
I can not express in words how thankful I am you have chosen to dedicate so many years of your life to;
sorting, studying, learning, and analyzing historical records.

I am appreciatative ever more you have chosen to share your studies with the world through your web site- FOR FREE!

I do believe you have created an important historical document for those of us in the world who were born to search and ask questions.

Your work is changing my life and I thank you for this.

Andrew Jarvis   -  04  -   2011

Linda Aubert   -  08  -  2011

I am so enjoying your site.

Landi Alexander   -  09  -  2011

We found your site and we are trying to figure out our lineage.
and are wondering what the (I) and (II) and (III) signify on your site
[1st, 2nd, 3rd generation in Canada]

Renee Metty   -  09  -  2011

Wow, what a spectacular site!

Mike Davis   -  09  -  2011

My compliments and appreciation for the incredible amount of work you have done
in researching and compiling this information.

Dawn L. Comeau   -  09  -  2011

I have been to your site numerous times and have found fantastic information.

Linda Hadley  -  09  -  2011

I want to thank you for all your works and tell you that The Library of Hope now has a copy of your entire website and we have also created all new files and books of them in Microsoft Word then converted to Adobe PDF for printing in hard copy of which the Metis, French, Indian are already done and binded.  We have changed nothing, just copy and paste.  Although it could use a good edit for spelling and typos :) What a treasure to find, it really is like a pot of gold to behold the words of truth and experience of others and not the glazed over text books we had in the 'English' schools.  I am a Cape Bretoner :) but live in Halifax, mostly Acadian and Basque lineage and some English and Mi'kmaq, so you know these works interest me! And when I sent your link with information about something I found on your site, the person wrote me back and said VERY INTERESTING WEBSITE! I took a closer look and now many hours have been spent downloading and working on files. So much I have never read before!
Thank you again for all your works, there are so many of you authors out there and I have collected so many great works of self publishing folks over the years, it is so good to see and such a privilege for me to preserve them for all.

Keep up the good work on being a voice for the Metis across Canada.
I have relatives from west and east Metis.
It is frustrating when the Metis association in Ontario requires a document proving acceptance in the Metis nation.
As you said it is not one nation, if a nation at all.

Xenia Stanford   -  10  -  2011

I enjoyed reading through the old history and events.
But my primary concern is to find missing ancestors.
Is your work indexed anywhere?  I could not find a spot to 'search for' in your material.
[A search engine is provided at http://www.telusplanet.net/public/dgarneau/direct.htm ]

I usually don't record my response but this is a special case
Part of my response in the [comments]

Francis Ermatinger was not a despicable man!!! And he did not leave a trail of wives!!
He only left one, my great-great-grandmother, Mary Three Dresses.
There was valid reason for the others..and he and Catherine reconciled and lived together until he died.
He took care of his children as good as most of those days!
[During this period HBC forced their men to pay support so that abandoned wives and children
would not be a burden on the Company posts *]
You see it wrong and I think that you assessment is wrong.
He was told that his Cree wife and daughter had starved to death.
He was sent West by the HBC and not allowed to take them.
[not true, she stayed at Severn post raised her child and married 1841 David Bird. 16 years later]
He Okanogan wife ran off with an Indian, later hung herself.
[not true she was pregnant with 2 child when he left]  He took care of the child.
[not true see * above the only other way to get out of paying was to find a new husband for the abandoned family]
His Pend d'Oreille wife was left but he provided for them until he died.
I know this from my Great-grandmothers recollections and when he died the money stopped,
it was being sent to Fort Connah, Montana at that time.
She thought the HBC post manager was taking the money not knowing he had died (1858).
[this could be true but he married his 4th wife who was age 18 (he was 44) in same area as 3rd wife at same time]
His last wife, had a child by a guy named Christy while he was on furlough to England.
He forgave her and they lived together until he died.
[not true when he went to England they were divorced
she lived and died in Red River (Winnipeg) he lived and died St Thomas, Ontario]
Check you facts, and I thought it was petty to put bold letters out there calling him despicable.

[I provided source documents and stand by my assessment that Francis Ermatinger was a despicable man
rather than just a bigamist and scoundrel]

[It should be noted that those who really cared took them to England, Red River, or Quebec
for education and included them in their will]

Would you be interested to assist the Metis Nation of Canada with the future development and
further recognition of the Metis People?
We would be honoured to have you as a person of considerable importance.
Kind Regards and very Respectfully.

Bryce Douglas Fequet  -   11  - 2011

I am honored but must decline as my work for the benefit of our youth, is more important.
This is why I don't copyright my work and offer it freely to the world, my gift to future generations.

The author - 11 - 2011

Thank You - I understand.
I acknowledge your work and I am better informed because of what you have done.

Bryce Douglas Fequet  -   11  - 2011

 All of us thank you’
The last time I emailed you was years ago with  historical information that you respectfully posted was about (II)-Jean Cadieu (1671-1709) and (I)-Marie Bourdon Pachirini of the Kichesipirini People (1675-1717?).  and their children.
Again your Blessings are needed.

Ronald Lacobucci   -  12  -  2011

I just happened on your web site and am sooooooooo impressed.
You have done so much research and have used great 'choice' words
to describe the people, the environment...ect...

Congratulations on a job well done.

I was reading your site and thought I would say hello. We're sailing from
Churchill, Manitoba to Iceland in 2013 to search for signs of Norse
presence in the Arctic.
