METIS HISTORY ...1500-1599
Principles of freedom included:
The Coureurs de Bois ,above all else, cherished the principle of
'FREEDOM OF MOVEMENT'.
The Indians had exposed the first Frenchmen to the principle of
'FREE TRADE'.
The Indians also challenged the French principle of
'One King,
One Church'
with a new
DEMOCRATIC PROCESS.

I took notice of our cottages and of the journeys of our navigation because the country was so pleasant, so beautiful, and fruitful, that it grieved me to see that the world could not discover such enticing countries to live in. This I say because the Europeans fight, for a rock in the sea, against one another, or for sterile land and horrid country ... these kingdoms are so delicious and under so temperate a climate, plentiful of all things, the earth bringing forth its fruit twice a year, the people live long and lusty and wise in their ways".
