16 SQN (CU) (Conversion Unit) would be where Harry met the rest of his crew and did more training before being dispatched to an operational Unit. During these times 16 SQN (CU) was at Hartford Bridge which is just west of London on the main A30 trunk road between Camberley and Basingstoke in the county of Hampshire.  

1659  HCU was a heavy conversion unit where they started flying 4 engine bombers. Here they would pick up an extra gunner and the flight engineer.
