With the very kind aid of
residents of Eberholzen, Mr. Holger Neuman and Mr. Uwe Spillmann, the exact location of
Harry's death has been identified. Mrs. Gerda Kühn from Eberholzen has related the following to
Uwe:
"Her farther, Mr.
Heinrich Busch, the local carpenter, organized the funeral
here in the village and built the coffins. When the bodies
where moved to Hannover he received a letter from RAF or RCAF
authorities, in which they expressed their thanks for his
work and support. (Flowers on the grave etc.)"
We add our thanks to the
people of Eberholzen for their care of Harry and his fellow crew
members, and in particular to Uwe for his kind assistance in
providing this information.
The
circled dot indicates the location of Eberholzen and the
crash site of Harry's plane.

Holger Neumann, of Eberholzen
has indicated on a detailed satellite photo, the
precise location of the crash site. Holger has
researched the site with family elders and has indicated by the red
rectangle the site in relation to the community of
Eberholzen. Linking to the Google
mapping Service will allow you to zoom in on the crash
site as well as explore Eberholzen and the surrounding
area. Click on the map below to access the Google mapping
service.

Holger
has also found amazing photos of the wreckage of LK-917
taken during wartime more than 60 years ago.

In
April 2003, Uwe
Spillmann provided the following photos showing the beautiful
rural landscape where he understood the plane came down.

Uwe believed the plane
came to rest in the trees where his daughter is standing.

With the passage of time, more
than sixty years in number, nature has reclaimed
the site and covered the scarred earth where bomber
LK-917 crashed.
In similar fashion, time has
healed many of the wounds of war between our nation
and the people of Germany.
