The airbase in northern England was one of many locations from which Bomber Command launched strikes across the Channel.

The above photo provided by Mike Stennett of Leeds, was taken in 1996. The outline of the airbase is still visible. Click on the photo for an expanded version of the image. 

Part of this base has survived the 60 plus years since it's inception, and although now surrounded by farming, some of the original structures can still be seen. In fact, some restoration is now in progress. The following map will provide the orientation and location for a gallery of photos from the past and present.
