Further information about the Bingham Genealogy Project
The Table of Contents below lists file names with links to the full reference within this file. Not all digital sources are included.
Most GEDCOM files were obtained by downloading from CompuServe or America
on Line (AOL); they are of unknown reliability or authenticity, but generally
they compare well with other sources and with each other, so most of the
information in them is probably reasonably accurate (or at least accurately
records what is found in some, perhaps ultimately, inaccurate paper source).
The material below which appears in a Monospaced font (similar
to a Courier font) is generally derived by 'cut and paste' directly from
information files (*.LST files) created at time of conversion from GED
to PAF format or is from file descriptions downloaded from CompuServe.
This font is also used for file names. My own additions or comments appear
in 'Normal' font.
The original BINGHAM.GED file in GEDCOM format as downloaded from CompuServe was described thus:
Contains self-extracting (for PCs only) GEDCOM file containing 13,379 individuals and 4133 marriages, including family names Bingham, Smith, Locke, Foote, Pratt, Wyman, Hyde, Snow, Lathrop, Middleton, Russell, Lee, Davis, Woodruff, Kellogg, Fessenden, Backus, Hamilton, & many more. Includes U.S. Presidents Grant, F. D. Roosevelt, Bush, and Cleveland. Also Eli Whitney, Benedict Arnold, 2 Queens of England & 7 Presidents of the Mormon Church. NOTE: this is a large file at 617,260 bytes - expanded size: 3,177,847 bytes. GEDCOM from PAF.
After converting to PAF format there were 13,379 individuals and 4,133 marriages. The BINGHAM.LST file included the following information:
GEDCOM File Name: BINGHAM.GED
Source System: PAF 2.2
Destination System: PAF
File Creation Date: 19 AUG 1993
Original File Name: BINGHAM.GED
Character Set: ANSEL
Submitter's Name: George Christian Hamilton
Address: Aramco Box 2481
Dhahran 31311, Saudi Arabia
Phone: (966-3) 878-1247
Into the above file was merged the WOODBRIG.GED file also downloaded from CompuServe. It contained 2926 individuals and 842 marriages (at a later date an updated version of this same file was also added, creating a vast number of duplicates most of which have been weeded out; these duplicates, where they still exist, usually have a difference of 3862 in their RIN numbers). After converting to PAF format the WOODBRIG.LST file included the following information:
GEDCOM File Name: WOODBRIG.GED

Comments: Most of this information is from research done by Paul M. Perkins. His sources are listed in his work, on file at the Library of Congress.
There were very few individuals in common with the BINGWOOD files. In retrospect, this file should not have been bulk added in toto, for most of these individuals are only distantly related (if at all).
GEDCOM File Name: CHTERTON.GED
Source System: PAF 2.13
Destination System: PAF
File Creation Date: 9 Nov 1989
Original File Name: chterton.GED
Submitter's Name: Nicky D. Bradford
Address: 297 West Basic Road, Henderson, NV 89015
Phone: 702-565-5839
Comments: All source notes have been deleted to save disk space and transmission time. The primary source is Families of Ancient New Haven by Donald Lines Jacobus. The IGI, available at LDS branch libraries, may also be consulted.
There were very few individuals in common with the BINGWOOD files. In retrospect (as for the previous file), this file should not have been added in toto for most of these individuals are only distantly related (if at all).
This file has not been added but a few individuals were in common and data was checked or added to.
Only a few selected individuals copied across from this file to the BINGWOOD files
Only a few selected individuals copied across from this file to the BINGWOOD files
Only a few selected individuals or info from this file copied across to the BINGWOOD files; there are seven earlier generations of GRANTs going backwards from Josiah Grant (28 Jan 1682 Windsor, Ct. - 26 Feb 1762 Litchfield Ct); it is possible (but not proven) he was the father of Donald Grant RIN 15933 (1708-1763) of Newton (or Newtown) Ct. who was an ancestor of Alfred Mitchell and Donald Grant Mitchell.
Downloaded from CompuServe on 6 January 1996. The only overlap with the BINGWOOD files is Abigail BACON b. 1713 married to Josiah LOOMIS b. 1709; about 10 generations of ancestors of Josiah LOOMIS are included but these have not been copied across because they are not in the direct ancestral line.
Only a couple of dates from this file added & spouse of Gov. Wm. Bradford; contains many Atwoods.
File contains 924 individuals and 529 marriages. This file has much very old royalty data including Wm. the Conqueror & ancestors. Includes Dudley, Saltonstall, families. Much of the old royalty data has been added to BINGWOOD by automatic adding of ancestors of certain individuals from this file.
Comments: Includes known ancestry of Martin Wing, born 29 Aug 1831, Franklinville, Cattaraugus County, NY who migrated to Oregon, married Margaret Claggett and raised fourteen children. Martin was son of Elnathan Wing and Myra Morgan, and descendant of the Wing family that came from England to Mass in 1632 and settled Cape Cod area. Surnames include LOOK, LUCE, PRESBURY, SKIFFE, ALLEN, BOURNE, MOULTON, LEWIS, BUNKER, TRACY, WARREN (MAYFLOWER LINE), SNOW, LUMBARD, and many other New England families. Add'l info available from Jim Whitman, 2724 224th Ave NE, Redmond, WA 98053; tel 206-868-1050.
Only a few individuals are common to BINGWOOD file; some information was added to a few of BUNKER, HUSSEY, BATCHELDER lines.
This file contains much early royalty data going back to Charlemagne and earlier. It also contains a long line of Drapers but they can't be linked with Drapers in BINGWOOD files.
Comments: ANCESTRY OF SANCHA DE AYALA, bd NEWARK 1415, her roots in Spain and her marriage to Walter Blount, friend and executor of the will of John of Gaunt. She was part of his second wife's household.
File contains 178 individuals and 88 marriages. This file was added in toto to BINGWOOD; Sancha de Ayala & Walter Blount are in the direct ancestral line via the Woodbridge and Dudley lines.
Comments: Ancestry of Roger Blount who Elizabeth Whitney, showing descent from Sancha de Ayala of Toledo.
File contains 427 individuals and 209 marriages. This file partly duplicates SANCHA.GED above (same author). Ancestors of John Beauchamp (RIN 18155) and of John St. John (RIN 21419) bulk added from this file; a total of 41 individuals added.
Only overlap is in the Cooke (of the Mayflower) family; a few dates have been added from here.
Only overlap is with Elizabeth Tilley & John Howland & her father John who, however, is given a different wife; both Tilleys on Mayflower in 1620.
File contains 331 individuals and 70 marriages. Only a few individuals have been checked or updated.

File contains 511 individuals and 170 marriages. Several generations of Mortons added.
Comments: This GED file is of the Rogers family of early Virginia. I obtained the file from the Ancestral file in the LDS Family History Center for John Rogers b. 1680 in VA. I'm not sure that I have the entire file. The complete file goes back to about 50 B.C. There are over 3,000 names. Most of the older names are European royalty. Anyone can obtain the entire file by visiting a LDS Family History Center in their area.
File contains 2028 individuals and 1061 marriages. Various of European royalty checked and updated against this file which has fairly complete information on many individuals.
File contains 486 individuals and 244 marriages. A few early Allertons, Brewsters, Warrens, Watermans, Arnolds updated or added.
File contains 6352 individuals and 3882 marriages. This is a large database totaling 6.6 Mb in PAF format (the GEDCOM file is 2.3 Mb). The LST file alone is over 2.3 Mb and contains nearly 69,700 lines of "Line xxx from GEDCOM File not recognizable or too long for RIN yyy" additional information. The origin of this file is not clear but it is all in French and contains much English, Spanish, French and Italian royalty. Because it is in French a lot of dates seem to have been incompletely imported into PAF. Also many accented characters seem to have been translated into dashes ("-").
Many ancestors of Alfred the Great added from this file; lots of others added or updated here and there.
File contains 1276 individuals and 663 marriages. Mainly European nobility and royalty largely duplicated in other files.
Comments: The ancestors of Gov. William Bradford and Alice Carpenter and the descendants of each.
Checked a few Carpenters from this file.
This file contains a lot of ancestors of James Morgan (spouse of Margary Hill) who were ancestors in the Woodbridge line. There are many royal ancestors in this file. Over 700 (794?) ancestors of James Morgan bulk added. This has probably created some duplicates which will have to be weeded out.
This is the Delano family GEDCOM file. Only a few colonial Cooks and Warrens in common. A few dates added.
Some Cookes, Kimballs, Winslows; a few added to.
A few Brewsters updated, several Bunkers and a few Emersons added or updated.
Mary Allerton's dates and her husband's ancestors added from this file; mother of Dorothy Yorke added; scattered others checked.

Contributor: 71234,2513
Lord Dudley John Sutton VI (c. 1401-1487) & his wife Elizabeth Berkeley (c. 1400-1478) from generation 11 of this file are common to the BINGWOOD files; all their ancestors going back many generations have been manually added. Includes much English, French, Spanish, Portugese, Italian, Norwegian, Swedish, Danish, German, Hungarian, Ukranian & other royal lines and nobility. This amounted to several hundred additions taking several months to transfer because it had to be done manually and very carefully.

A long list of sources is included.
File in MS Word format consists of the article "The Plantagenets and Their Times" by Ron Collins. This is quite a long interesting article which also includes several genealogical tables linking the Plantagenets to various early New England families (Grovesner, Bulkeley, Treat, Dudley, Woodbridge. etc.).
Many individuals checked, a few dates added and a few new ancestors added.
It has proven difficult to keep track of all the World Wide Web (www) sites on the Internet accessed for source material partly because the sites keep moving and changing their addresses and also because by following links one sometimes ends up in a whole new area. In some cases I have downloaded pages to my local hard drive for perusal off line, thus losing the complete URL. What are listed below are generally web pages providing access to many (usually searchable) genealogical databases.
In the notes field of the BINGWOOD files where the source of the data is commonly indicated, the actual URL ('uniform resource locator', as displayed by Netscape or other Internet browser for each page displayed) has been given. This is often a query request to some genealogical database.
URL's and material copied (by cut and paste) from web page screens appears in MonoSpaced (similar to Courier) font; my own additions or comments are in regular font.
This server indexes hundreds of databases containing genealogical data
for over two million individuals, and gives you the ability to locate and
view data of interest to you on any of these databases, without having
to go and visit each of the databases separately. The Bingham genealogy
database is now included on Gendex.

Various dates checked and added.
Visited 21 Dec 1996; many early colonial lines updated.
This is only one of the pages (for Woden or Odin). A major database full of early English, Welsh, Irish & other very early royalty. Good bibliography attached in separate file. Many added from here, mostly early Irish kings

This is a starting point for a number of interesting genealogies with
links to many different genealogies, including the above. Many of these
databases seem to be located at the University of Hull in the U.K.
Also contains some good short writeups regarding the validity of some of
the very early genealogies.
This is a large database which seems to be well researched with many
references sited. It includes much early New England data. Many include
a few generations of English ancestors. The surname list was carefully
checked against the BINGWOOD database on 26 April 1997. Many dates
and places adjusted. Quite a few new individuals added.
This fascinating on-line version of a famous ancient text has been used
to flesh out biographical information about some of the very early English
Kings. Much of the early English genealogy accessed elsewhere has
used this as a primary source. Note that where quoted herein by paragraph
headed by an A.D. date, often the contents of that paragraph refers to
genealogy many years prior to (or after) the heading date.

Grail Knights of the "Holy Blood / Holy Grail", Mary Queen of Scots, Princess Diana, Margaret Sinclair Trudeau, & a Few Other Maeremaids
This rather fantastical site includes three genealogical charts (in image format which look like they have been scanned from some book) which agree with much that has been found elsewhere. They include a few relationships not found elsewhere, some of which have been added.
Most of this text seems to be a series of 'teaser' questions to encourage one to obtain the full text (though where or how to obtain it is obscure).
It includes the following
DISCLAIMER: What follows is based upon the works of over 150 authors,
all of whom are fully acknowledged. However, being as it embraces modern
Holy Grail Theory as applied to some of the lesser known sub-histories
of civilization, Mermaid Brides, conveyed by three fictional narrators,
is semi-conjectural, and therefore can be taken "with a grain of salt".
Aside from numerous entries of genealogical interest of various early
and medieval church related individuals, the article on General Chronology
about all the different calendars which have been used for the last two
thousand and more years is very interesting and thorough.

Compiled by Ali Abbas (abbas@seas.gwu.edu) and Salim Shabbir Yusufali (yusufali@cs.stanford.edu)
This is a collection of rather scholarly articles about Islamic teachings. There is not much historical information. A few biographical details of Muhammod's daughter Fatima and her husband Imam Ali have been used.
This is quite a good Ismaili history Islam detailing the lives of each
Imam down to the Agha Khan of today. [Unfortunately, the online URL for
this site is unknown as I downloaded it and read it later]
Among much other useful genealogical related material are listings of
numerous genealogy databases. (The Bingham Genealogy Project is listed
here -- it appears on the Canadian page, although its data is primarily
American, at least post 1600)
This site probably has more useful genealogy links than any other on
the Internet. It doesn't, so far as I can determine, contain any
actual genealogy data, but it provides links to and collections of links
to all sorts of data maintained by others.
[few Sawyers, Moodys, added or updated]
lots of common ancestors of early Martha's Vinyard, Nantucket &
elsewhere
These are some of the computer files or other sources found to be referenced within the computer files listed above but which have not been directly viewed or consulted (this list is not all inclusive). They are listed here only because it might be useful at some later date to access some of them directly.
