This is a new taper I worked up over the winter. Starting with a fast taper I’m presently using for dry fly work, I beefed up the taper a little around the ferrule and shortened the rod length a little to reduce swing weight and increase tip speed. It would make a good transition rod for those folks just switching to cane from graphite rods. The rod using this taper supports casts to 75 feet but it’s sweet @ 40’. You will appreciate the medium flamed cane and low luster finish when chasing browns.

This taper I developed
for fishing larger waters while still delivering the delicacy
to fish smaller flies. I use it to fish a dropper/dry combinations as
well. This rod is now my "go to" rod for fishing southern Alberta trout
streams where is is generally an issue.

This taper was a challenge. The folks at Rodmakers were working up a 6 foot taper using a 3 weight line designed to cast a dry fly in the 50 foot range. The tapered worked out well and did what was required. For short casts in smaller streams, I would line the rod with a DT4F. The price is $50.00 less as no rod case over bag is provided.

This taper is a Leonard taper for a 4 or 5 weight line. I like it with the 4 weight. It casts effortlesly at the 40' range and with a light double haul will certainly cast over 70'. The rod shaft is dyed with a brown dye to lessen the "flash".The price is $50.00 less as no rod case over bag is provided.
