Sarah, Gloria and Ed went out to Miquelon Lake on a geocaching expedition. We got questioned by a land-owner, suspicious of our activity, but apparently our story sounded OK. We found 7 out of our target 8 caches, a good day.

Glo & Ed spend the day in Camrose, geocaching, meeting Jeremiah for lunch and then watching the 2011 Canadian Hot Air Balloon Championships in the evening.

Unaware that the hot air balloon events did not start until 5:00 p.m., Glo & Ed headed off to Camrose just after lunch on Saturday, Sept. 24. After locating the venue, we soon found out that the events did not start until much later. Glo had brought along her iPad so she suggested we do might as well do some geocaching while we were waiting.

We managed to find 5 geocaches with one did-not-find (the same one I have been after for about 3 years now). The weather was sunny and very warm, so warm that Glo had to sit out the last search. That was the did-not-find, by the way. Coincidence? I doubt it. The geocaching took us to some nice parks as well as some industrial areas. I still say that geocaching is a great way to see a town.

We then met Jeremiah for lunch and got to catch up on how things were going for him in Camrose. Most of the downtown restaurants were closed on Sat. afternoon, much to our surprise and we ended up at one of Jeremiah's favourite sandwich outlets, just before they closed up. Turkey sandwiches all around were the order(s)of the day.

After lunch Glo and I headed over to the event venue again, found ourselves some suitable seating and got some snacks (obviously the turkey sandwiches proved insufficient after all that geocaching. The ballons were originally scheduled to launch at 5:00 but did not manage to get completely airborne until about 8:00.

By that time the two of us had enough fresh air and exercise for the day so we decided to head back home. The mass launch of 15 balloons proved to be quite an impressive sight, well worth the wait.
