Day Care - School Age Program

Heartland Youth Center

The Heartland Youth Center (HYC) is a non-profit organization comprised of the Big Brothers/Big Sisters Program and the Boys & Girls Club. The HYC endeavors to develop and nurture the life skills of youth through community based programming with the support of families and volunteers.

Big Brothers/Big Sisters      Big Brothers Big Sisters Club

Rainbows - Activity based program to assist youth dealing with loss or transition in life.

Match Program - Initiates a one to one friendship between a child and positive adult role model.

Mentor Program - Initiates a one to one match between a school age child and a positive adult role model in the school setting.

Boys & Girls Club

Provides affordable, non-competitive programs for children aged 6 - 18 years.

Programs include:

  • After School drop-in ( 6 - 12 yrs ) Unstructured, supervised fun.
  • Kid Power ( 6 - 8 yrs ) Structured and supervised fun including snacks.
  • Teen drop-in ( 13 - 18 yrs ) Unstructured, supervised, safe place to hang out.
  • Spark Club ( Girls 9 - 11 yrs ) Emphasis on personal development, leadership, & fun activities, etc.
  • Zone Club ( Boys 9 - 11 yrs ) Emphasis on personal development, leadership & fun activities, etc.
  • Torch Club ( 12 - 14 yrs ) Service to club & community, education & career development, etc.
  • Keystone Club ( 14 - 18 yrs ) Service to club & community, education & career development, etc.
  • Homework Help ( 6 - 12 yrs ) A quiet, supervised place to work where help is available.
  • Weird Science ( 6 - 12 yrs ) Crazy, wacky science experiments.
  • Computer Club ( 8 - 12 yrs ) Play computer games, learn computer skills, e-mail, etc.
  • Kids in the Kitchen ( 6 - 12 yrs ) Cook yummy foods while learning about food safety, eating healthy, etc.
  • Craft Corner ( 6 - 12 yrs ) Make crazy crafts & find new talents.
  • HEAT junior leadership program (13 - 18 yrs ) Teens attend workshops on building leadership skills.
  • Employment programs ( 13 - 18 yrs )
  • Holiday programs ( 6 - 18 yrs )
  • Special Events ( 6 - 18 yrs )

There are holiday day camps and many special events such as Kiddie Carnival at the Trade Fair, Haunted House put on by the Keystone Club, Easter Eggcitement, Teacher's Convention, Hollydaze, Teen Trips in the summer, and RAD Day camps in the summer.

Fundraisers we hold include Steak & Lobster Maritime Night & Awesome Auction, Bowl for Kids fundraiser, Meat Draws at the Stettler Legion, Casino in Red Deer, Donut Blitz and Bottle Drives.

Screamers Ice Cream Booth is a seasonal employment program we run from May - September. The program provides teens with job skills, puts some money in their pocket and keeps the town of Stettler full of excellent ice cream.

HYC yearly membership entitles you to participate in any of the age appropriate programs, trips and special events throughout the year. Some additional fees may apply. HYC requires all parents of members to volunteer 10 hours per child yearly to assist in fundraisers and/or special events within HYC.

COST: Individual  $20.00
Family  $45.00

HYC is always looking for volunteers - for the In School Mentoring program, for Big Brothers or Big Sisters, for Board Members, for teen volunteers, for adult volunteers who'd like to get involved in a program, craft, special event or fundraiser.
