The Friday night CBRA bull riding included 34 rides, with each rider getting on two bulls. Each bull was sold for $100. The bull that Bruce Hayworth “bought” had the highest point ride, 81, for which he received $1500.
Girletz Rodeo Stock, a local stock contractor that has won the stock contractor of the year award previously, along with Baird & Shellenberg supplied the very powerful stock for the Bull-a-rama.
Todd Hemmerling, from Edson, Alberta was the winning bull rider, with 154 points on two bulls, which resulted in his winning the purse and the belt buckle donated by Doug Lehman of Co-operator’s Insurance in Oyen.
A well-attended dance was held at the rodeo grounds following the Bull-a-rama. An Old-Time dance with music by Miles Logan and Friends was also held at the hall.
Saturday morning began with an excellent pancake breakfast at 11:00, sponsored by the Cereal businesses. A superb parade followed at 2:00 in the afternoon.
The major rodeo events began at 6:30, with excellent attendance. One of the high points of the performance was an impressive 91-point ride by Luke Ellingson of Weyburn, Saskatchewan on Kesler Championship Rodeo’s Brushpopper Copenhagen.
Rod Hay, of Wildwood, Alberta rode Kesler’s Two Steppin’ for an 82 point ride in the Saddle Bronc Riding. Jay Phipps, of Marshall, Saskatchewan rode Kesler Championship Rodeo’s Bootlegger for 78 points in the Bareback Riding, resulting in a four-way split for the top spot. Tyler Jackson of Tiger Lily, Alberta received a score of 79 points, good enough for a two-way split for first and second in the Boys’ Steer Riding.
Live music by Rob Frey and Friends and a dance at the arena followed Saturday’s rodeo performance.
Sunday began with slack at 9:00 a.m. Sherrylynn Adams of Marshall, Texas, one of 41 barrel racers competing in the slack, posted the fast time of 16.27 seconds in Ladies’ Barrel Racing. Tom Barr of Cowley, one of 25 steer wrestlers in the slack, received the winning time of 4.1 seconds.
The Sunday performance began at 1:30 p.m. Shawn Vant of Millet, Alberta posted a 78 point ride in Bareback Riding on Kesler Championship Rodeo’s Double Take. Bill Boyd of Olds, Alberta rode Kesler Rodeo’s Country Boy for 78 points. Cam Morris of Patricia, Alberta rounded out the four way split for the top in Bareback Riding with a 78 on Kesler Championship Rodeo’s Matchbox. Lon Streeter of Nanton, Alberta completed the split for first and second in Boy’s Steer Riding with 79 points.
The Cereal Pro Rodeo Association would also like to thank the media present at the rodeo. The Oyen Echo, CHAT Television, and the Prairie Post were all in attendance. Highlights from the rodeo were aired on CHAT Television, Medicine Hat.

The new corral system for the rodeo proved to be a significant improvement over the previous system. The new panels are constructed of 2 3/8” pipe, with a height of over 6 feet. Larry Lupuliak (Double L Welding) is to be commended for his excellent job in the construction of the new panels. Terry Wood of Woody’s Welding also provided assistance.
