Vanagon Front Bike Rack

Installation Instructions

Note:  The brackets may note fit exactly flush to the body of the van due to variations between different vans.  Manufacturing tolerances on this part of body of the Vanagon was not precise.  Just position the brackets, drill the holes and bolt up.  The brackets should conform to the required shape after bolting.

  1. Remove spare tire
  2. Removal of clamshell tray will make things easier, but it is not necessary
  3. Remove lower radiator support brackets.  A floor jack can be used to support the radiator.
  4. Using the supplied longer metric bolts, reinstall the radiator brackets with the bike brackets behind.
The drivers side bracket has a "D" stamped on it.  The passenger side bracket has a "P" stamped on it.
  5. Drill 5/16" holes through the bike brackets into the van.  Install bolts and washers.
  6. If you have a late model van with fiberglass bumpers and the little plastic air dam on front, you will need to either remove
the air dam or use a hole saw and make a couple of holes.

The bike load bars can be pinned in place with either the supplied quick release pins, or stainless steel bolts with nylock nuts.
If desired, you can cut the load bars shorter with a hacksaw.
