GLACIERMIST KENNELS
Growing up I always wanted to work
with dogs, bringing home all kinds of strays and eventually saving up to buy my
own dog a Lab cross as a teenager. Breeding and showing Alaskan Malamutes I
would never of guessed, not knowing what breed I truly had interest in I was
leaning towards the Rottweiler. Reading and doing my homework on the Rottweiler
I decided this was the breed for me.
Until one day at work one of my
co-workers said they had this Malamute pup they couldn’t keep. Knowing if I went
to look at this pup I would end up taking him home and sure enough I did. Our
love for the breed started in December 1989 with this 4-month-old puppy we named
Nanuk and we been hooked ever since.
After purchasing our acreage we set
out in search of our foundation female. In 1993 we added Ch Maladream Red Dakota
and our start into the world of purebred dogs. I attended handling classes with
Dakota and in the spring of 1994 I entered Dakota in her first show and end up
pulling her because she dumped her coat. After growing her coat back I had
entered her in the Alberta Kennel Club out door show in summer not knowing this
was the largest outdoor show in Canada. Nervous as anything I entered the ring
with this red Malamute not knowing this was not a very popular colour to be
showing, she ended up taking second out of a class of five and going reserve
winners and I have enjoyed showing my dogs ever since.
In 1995 I bred Dakota to Ch Malhaven
Shadow of the Dark and had a litter of four .Out of the litter I kept two and
titled them both Ch Glaciermist Chasing Shadows (Chase) and Ch Glaciermist
Lonesome Dove (Keira). In 1997 Dakota was bred to Ch Malhaven Lion and had a
litter of eight out of that litter five of them where titled. I had kept two
girls from that litter Ch Glaciermist Cheyenne Gray Sikku (Cheyenne) and Ch
Glaciermist Mystic Gray ( Neuteal). From these dogs I have begun the third and
fourth generations of Glaciermist kennels and have titled many of them even
placing four of them in the top ten three years in a row.
I am a member of the Alaskan Malamute
Club of Canada and the Canadian Kennel Club. Kelly and I both work full time in
the Graphic arts industry and Kelly is also the fire chief of the Calahoo
volunteer fire department.
We
are both very proud of our malamutes and their accomplishments and are looking
forward to new millennium and would thank all those who have helped us along the
way.
