One important resource for local citizens and the business community to be aware of and care for is the Grimshaw Gravels Aquifer. This resource not only provides a groundwater supply of drinking water, but it provides for business and recreation attraction in the area surrounding the aquifer.
Groundwater is a hidden and often forgotten resource. What happens on the land above and around the aquifer can impact the quality and quantity of the water below the surface. To ensure long term quality groundwater supplies that are safe for human use, creating an aquifer management plan is an important step for caring for this valuable resource.
The Grimshaw Gravels Aquifer Management Advisory Association has released a "Community Focused Management Strategy for the Grimshaw Gravels Aquifer", a result of many individuals and organizations combined efforts to put together a development and protection strategy.
To find out more information or to learn how you can contribute to the management of this resource, contact Judy Pimm, Chairperson for the new association through the MD of Peace Office at 780-338-3845.
