Sorry, No Camp This Season (2003)
In January the Camp Director was discovered to have health concerns
that will make running camp impossible in 2003. And
because our camp is so unique, finding a replacement
director would be very difficult. Accordingly, the
camp Board of Directors has decided to take a
focus on scientific research
and program development. We'll return in 2004 with a
revitalized camp!

Camps for Kids . . .
The "Dinosaur Country" Series 9 - 15 years
Join an outdoor
learning adventure! Make friends with other kids who want to uncover
science and discover fun... just like you! You'll enjoy palaeontology,
geology, archaeology, and nature study. Dynamic and exciting experiences
for campers of any age. Picture this:
- Excavating dinosaur bones from a 68 million-year-old bone bed, and
preparing the fossils using fine tools
- Surveying coulees and prairie for archaeological sites, mapping
features and running artifact inventories
- Finding fossil trees and collecting data on their size, age and
distribution
- Touring the galleries of the world renowned Royal Tyrrell Museum,
and finding out about current research
- Exploring arid hills and springs to discover how different plants
survive during a drought.

For a week we'll be in our Willow Creek base camp, where we'll take
advantage of the rich resources to uncover the science secrets of the
badlands and prairie - palaeontology, geology, ecology and archaeology. On
a four day canoe trip, we'll explore the Red Deer River valley from
Trenville to Bleriot Ferry, a 70 km stretch that flows from parkland to
badlands and from the age of mammals to the age of dinosaurs. Campers will
be required to enrol in Drumheller Composite High School, and grades will
be given as for any course. Credits will be recognized throughout Alberta,
and may be transferable to other jurisdictions.
Dinosaur Country Explorer 12-15 years
The Explorer is for returning campers who want new experiences in
Dinosaur Country. In addition to spending time close to camp, we'll climb
aboard Esmerelda, our "magic camp bus" and head off to explore
other great sites; newly discovered fossil localities, the forest-covered
hand hills, spruce-filled Home Coulee, archaeologically rich thumb hill,
or glacial spillway channel Crawling Valley. Camper interests and weather
conditions will help determine which sites are visited.

Leader In Training 15-18 years
A work experience program for seasoned campers who really enjoy camp,
science and working with kids. During camps for kids 13 and under, our
Leaders In Training help out with all aspects of camp, and have the option
of pursuing a science project of their choice. A limited number of positions
are available. Contact us for current prices and details on how to apply.
Family Weekenders are for parents who want to share the fun with their
kids! We choose our best programs to create a science-packed camp for all
ages, with kid, family and parent-oriented activities. Enjoy a mix of
paleontology, geology, archaeology and ecology, and even some stargazing
if you can stay up that late! Reserve a spot in a camp tipi, or pitch your
own tent for the weekend. Family weekenders start with supper Friday and
wrap up Monday by lunch.
Family Canoe Trip July 28 - 31. A new
expedition-style program for families. Spend the three
days of this camp on and along the Red Deer River, exploring the river
and badlands for rocks, fossils, archaeological remains and present-day
ecology. This one-way trip will feature back-country camping, paddling
on the gentle (class I) Red Deer, and a family - paced science adventure.

Camps For Schools And Groups
Hands-on science discovery for schools and groups! During the spring Camp
comes alive with groups. Programs are adapted to the particular dynamics of
groups, and custom designed to meet the curriculum needs and individual
interests of each group.
