Production Technology for Heavy Oil Recovery

The heavy oil and oil sands volume in the world has been calculated to be equal to the volume of the world's light and medium oils. It is estimated that over 90% of this planet's heavy oil and oil sands are deposited in Canada and Venezuela. As the world's conventional oil recovery methods begin to decline they is an ever-growing need to tap into the heavy oil deposits.

The process of recovering the heavy oil deposits from their reservoirs using SAGD consists of drilling 2 horizontal wells. These 2 wells are drilled through the bottom section of the target heavy oil zone, with one well over the other one in close proximity. The top well bore is used to direct steam into the zone (injector) and the bottom well bore is used to produce the heavy oil as it heats up (producer). The positioning of the well bores to each other is extremely important and Heat Seekers has been an integral part of this operation over the years.

Advances have been made in directional drilling and measuring while drilling (MWD) technologies and also in the production technologies such as SAGD. Heat Seekers has been involved with SAGD projects in Alberta, Canada since 1996 and has advanced in their wireline technologies along the way. We offer SAGD wireline services using conventional wireline, coil tubing applications, pump-down applications and most recently down-hole tractor services. Heat Seekers has been recognized as one of the front-running wireline companies in Western Canada when it comes to SAGD projects.
