How did you do? Opening lines that drop the reader immediately into the magic of the story are a favourite of mine. I also love to play with that special place where fantasy and reality intermingle. Rocks that turn up in your jacket pocket even after you've tossed them away, a puzzle that goes together differently for each person who tries it, a 100 year old talking cat on it's ninth life - how would the life of a kid today be affected if such things did indeed happen?
