Introduction
My
wife, Rose and I, have been involved in the Limousin industry since 1998. While
brief, we believe we have been very fortunate in our accomplishments in the full
blood polled Limousin program. When
we looked into being part of the fullblood polled Limousin program we were
concerned as to the direction the industry was going. The biggest complaints we heard was that polled fullbloods
were lacking in size, milk production, structure and scrotal development.
Another concern in the commercial breed was that the purebred Limousin cattle
(black or red) lack muscle. With this in mind, we set our breeding program in
motion to develop a polled fullblood with size, structure, milk, muscle,
performance and scrotal development. A
very tall order, but one we felt was achievable.
Our breeding program was to take polled fullbloods and breed them to
horned fullbloods that have high EPDS and proven genetics, or newer French blood
lines with proven genetics to create a new outcross animal. We then planned to take the horned fullbloods and breed them
to NEW polled fullblood bulls. These
new polled fullbloods we have already developed are: Ø
1-Way
Polled Justice, Harvest Olympus, Ø
1-Way
Polled Extra Joy – Joyau genetics Ø
1-Way
Polled Kana - first homozygous polled fullblood in North America from STZZ
Polled Yukon. To achieve our goal will take us about 5 years. We feel this program will change the polled fullblood industry as we see it today. We are proud to say that we were voted the premiere breeder and exhibitor at the Edmonton Farm Fair International for 2002. An accomplishment that stands as a testament to our dedication to this goal.
