Signatories to the Breeder's Code of Ethics shall:
Registration
Register all eligible Terriers with the JRTCC Breed Registry prior to breeding and maintain accurate records of matings, whelping, pedigrees, vet exams etc.
Breeding
Use for breeding only healthy Adult (over one year of age) Terriers of characteristic type, sound structure and temperament that are free of any known inheritable defects encountered the Terrier, and avoid the introduction of any detrimental factors. Any new defects encountered MUST be reported to the Chairman of the Breeders Committee immediately that they become known. A Breeder's efforts are directed/focused to produce Terriers conforming to the JRTCC Conformation Standard.
Breed no bitch before he second season, and in no event before 12 months of age and only then if in robust health. The frequency of Breeding is the individual Breeder's decision, and most important, after careful consideration of the individual Bitch's health and after examination of detailed whelping records which the Breeder maintains in consultation with their Veterinary Reproductive Specialist, if deemed prudent. Protect unspayed bitches from unplanned matings. Breeding a Bitch to more than one Stud Dog during a single heat period is NOT ALLOWED.
Conscientiously plan each litter based on working ability, the parents conformation and temperament, all considered of equal value, combined with pedigrees in relation to the purpose of the Terrier and the JRTCC's Conformation Standard.
Not continue to breed a Terrier which produced one or more offspring in each of two litters, as a result of breeding with two different partners, with a serious defect, known to be a genetically linked condition detrimental to the animal's health or well being, such as blindness, deafness, lameness, or impairment of vital functions, nor shall said animal be sold or otherwise placed for breeding purposes.
Exercise discretion and thoughtful consideration in the use of Stud Dog.
Do not practice Parent to Offspring, or Full Sibling matings. This is not allowed.
Half Brother to Half Sister matings are permitted once in three generations if there is one ancestor that is common to both the Sire and the Dam. A generation is defined as on step or degree in the descent of a family. For example, parents would represent one generation, grandparents would represent and second generation, etc. If an individual Terrier is not Registerable within the foregoing guidelines, the Registrar will determine the Terrier's inbreeding co-efficient and if the co-efficient is 15% or less, the Terrier will be Registered.
