His Bark is Worse than His Bite © wood engraving (ed. 40) image: 6 x 4 in. $95.00 (go to "Hi There" for purchase information)
It's a relief to discover that a dog, whose bark and agressive behavior appears dangerous, is simply posturing and doesn't actually carry out the threat with an attack. The phrase, "his (her) bark is worse than his (her) bite" applies to an individual who is behaving like that kind of dog. The image of this print, which takes the phrase and twists its meaning, is taken from the bark on the trunk of my nephew Jessie's tree.
