The blobfish (Psychrolutes mardidus) is a deep ocean fish found in the waters of Australia and Tasmania and was voted the world's ugliest animal. This fish is rarely seen since its habitat is in the deepest of depths, where the pressure is great. It is made up of gelatinous material that is slightly less dense than water. This allows the blobfish to float above the seafloor without swimming. It lacks the muscles for swimming and simply floats and waits for food to float near enough to open its slimy mouth and swallow. You might say the blobfish is aptly named.
