Bristleworms are segmented worms that live in the Earth's oceans at various depths. Some can be as long as two feet. There are various species but each of the worms have segments that contain protrusions that serve to help them move around, generally on the bottom of the ocean. These protrusions can penetrate skin and sting and are hard to remove (possibly why they are also called "Fire Worms"), so watch where your step when you're playing in the surf. They can also bite. Apparently not a friendly worm.
