Cute as a Bug's Ear © wood engraving (ed. 40) image: 4 x 6 in. $100.00 (go to "Hi There" for purchase information)
When someone says that someone or something is "cute as a bug's ear" they're usuallly talking about a baby or a kitten or something little and cute. Nobody knows whether a bug's ear is cute or not because nobody has ever seen a bug's ear, because bugs don't have ears. It's possible that the phrase could have had a totally different meaning and was never meant to describe anything "cute". Bug's don't have ears, but their hearing is very ACCUTE, using other audio reception systems.
