Night Flights: This series of oil drawings was inspired after flights to and from Brazil which took place at night. When the cabin lights were turned out, sleep was impossible and reading was out of the question, so the only way to keep entertained was to watch the clouds and moon and to let the imagination run wild. Months later, in the studio, the series began. The paper was primed with numerous thin coats of acrylic medium to prevent the oil paint from working through the paper, yet preserving the paper texture. The paint was applied thinly and dry (no solvents or turps) with stencil brushes of various sizes. There is no impasto paint on the paper surface.
