I imagined each nursery rhyme character was a real person and this rhyme is no exception. I can't begin to imagine the reason the two women got up in the apple tree in the first place. Mother Goose didn't seem to know either. Nor can I imagine the reason the "other" woman stayed there until Saturday, after her companion had the good sense to leave the tree.
