I don't imagine a loud mouth drunk would have much to say in her retired years, after such a traumatic shock. The experience might leave her in a catatonic state. Now, think for a moment, about the redeeming value of this little story for a four or five year old. This is one of those I never heard when I was a nursery resident.

A STRANGE OLD WOMAN

There was an old woman and what do you think?

She lived upon nothing but victuals and drink;

Victuals and drink were the chief of her diet,

And yet this old woman could never be quiet.

She went to the baker, to buy her some bread,

And when she came home, her old husband was dead;

She went to the clerk to toll her the bell,

And when she came back her old husband was well.
