Stitches for Jesus
A small group of ladies from the Worldwide Church of God, Grande Prairie, AB congregation formed an organization in 1997 called Stitches for Jesus. Our desire is to use our gifts and abilities to serve wherever there is a need. Our core group consists of four ladies who get together twice a month to sew on various projects others join us when able. We begin the day with prayer and bible study.
We started by sewing quilts for: Odyssey House (a local women's shelter), the Pregnant and Parenting Teen program in Grande Prairie, and various fire victims. We annually participate in Operation Christmas Child by filling shoeboxes with toys and hygiene items which are shipped to 3rd world countries. We've also made activity bags for young children who have to stay in the rural hospitals of our area. Once a month we give craft and sewing classes to the young moms in the Pregnant and Parenting Teen Program. These classes help boost the girl's self-esteem and teach them new skills.
Seeing the ever-increasing needs of individuals whose lives have been touched by cancer we've also been sewing special caps and lap quilts. These caps are designed, with comfort in mind, for individuals receiving cancer treatment.
We support our outreach through various fundraisers such as bake sales, quilt raffles, craft sales and donations.
